i'm not comparing them in terms of driving skill, but vettel's mindset of "i have to be the fastest no matter what the situation" was similar to senna's. i think it was monaco in 1988 where he had a lead of nearly one minute and he crashed near the end of the race because he couldn't bring himself to slow down.

Peeps do the same in iRacing down to 1/10th. Did it in RC car racing too lap after lap after lap. I do it in AutoX too.... But anyway, read the point, you don't have to agree about the sim.

lulz at comparing iRacing to guys who can literally control their pace down to the 1/10ths of a second on demand.....

^His engineer, Rocky, is constantly telling him to back off at the end of races when he has a comfortable lead because the team doesn't want him crashing or damaging the car because his ego just has to have the fastest lap of the race.

hopefully they don't have shit announcers.
    Vettle FTW again yay.
I like how his team tells him to take it easy on the tires, but he says fuck that shit and pushes harder.

My bet is the 4 NBC aired races will be dumbed down, just like the FOX ones are now. The rest will hopefully be ok.

One good thing - when NBCSN goes to commercial on Indy Car, they keep the race running in a smaller window. So, hopefully they do that with F1 as well.
Wouldn't surprise me either....I read somewhere Varsha has contractual committments with Fox so he's probably out of the NBC/F1 future. Hobbs can be comical at times (and irritating at others) but Matchett is the one I hope gets a chance with NBC. His experience as a former F1 mechanic gives the kind of insight that no run-of-the-mill sports personality can offer. I would really like to see a more recently retired F1 driver doing some announcing with NBC for the same reasons.

I like the idea of the reduced picture on screen while commercial content is being run vs the traditional commercial break. I'm sure the 4 races on NBC will be dumbed-down to capture more audience but I hope the other races on NBC Sports Network offer more in-depth analysis and announcing more akin to what we've seen on Speed.

Here's another news article detailings the changes with F1 on NBC....

Fair enough, I prefer coverage from guys that actually driven a modern F1 car/owned a team/etc. It depends on what goes up first, but sometimes I still grab the Speed broadcast so I can watch it. Not as bad as I remember it.

A big part of it though was having to buy all the extra cable packages to get Speed, so having a $175/month cable bill for Speed wasn't worth it anymore.

Regarding Fox Sports/Speed situation: I'd love to see Velocity (HD channel on satellite, and maybe cable) get a hold of airing rights for the US. I believe they already air World Rally coverage currently; one would assume that it could be possibility since they presumably dealt with the FIA to get those WRC airing rights. We'll see. It's a damn shame though, I'll take Bob, Steve, and David's knowledge, accuracy, and sense of humor any day over the pink shirt guy, Coulthard, and Eddie Jordan's voice (and his face.)

Or, is there a way to catch online broadcasting of the races? I found the Sky F1 page but I get the 'restricted access' message. I guess they don't want us Yanks viewing :roll eyes:
Look into http://racingfor.me I'm a member on there, unfortunately I don't have any free memberships to throw your way, but I imagine someone on here or any other motorsport-related forum might. It's got an amazing selection of all FIA series' (you can download everything from FP1 from last week's race in Japan, to a whole Formula One season if you have the resources to do so.) Highly recommended.

Edit: Wait a minute Jon, fuckin' a, didn't I send you an invite a long time ago for that racingfor.me site? I recommend it if we suddenly lose all television coverage next year.

God I hope that happens before Felipe leaves at the end of 2013.

Yeah, Phil was pushing his front tires a little harder than Fred. I thought it was great and along with Japan last week it guaranteed his place on the team next year. Hulk's hopes dashed.

He said he had a big lock up in the third sector and had to go down to 1st gear to collect the car.
