Did anyone make it to Austin for the USGP???

I got last minute tickets to the race on Sunday, missed everything Friday and Saturday...but still amazing to see it in person. The sound those cars make doesn't compare to what you hear on TV....

Here are some pics and video I managed to get while I was there. I was at turn 1 the whole time. Unfortunately...our tickets were literally so last minute we made it in time for the race, and that was it. Missed the Ferrari challenge and the Porsche GT cup that went before the F1 race.

The other pics were from downtown Austin, they had the F1 expo going on all over. Pretty cool sights. I'm the goofy looking bastard in the orange hoodie.

I made it to the Austin F1! What an amazing track and experience. I wasn't a fan, but I am now. I cannot wait for the upcoming events and F1 races around the world. Here are some pics from turn 1:

    And some other races:

Bummer, even without that much money it seems like he would have made a good option for a team... I can think of at least 3 guys that I would have kicked before Kamui. Give him a good car and I reckon he would be a killer.

While I of course was hoping for Vettel, I was also really hoping for Alonso, too. If Vettel couldn't pull it out, I wanted Fernando to have the championship, especially in front of his home crowd. I really like him, but same as you, I'm not a Ferrari fan.

Although it did look avoidable to me.
Racing incident, but Vettel did turn down on Senna.

Massa ran a phenominal race imho. He did absolutely everything he was supposed to do to help out his teamate. It was really good to see him finish the season back on form... If he can drive like that next year he would be the perfect no2 driver for ferrari, just what they like, a set 1 and 2 driver.

Vettel complaining of "dirty tricks", dropping the F bomb to sound cool after Kimi.

I'm not a Vettel fan anymore. I was actually pulling for Alonso and I've always disliked Ferrari.

A phenomenal season ending race - it certainly wasn't short of exciting moments.

It is impressive to see Vettel win the title 3 years on the trot (ditto for Red Bull with the constructors), but I was really hoping Alonso would take it. He was damn close too considering the lack luster performance of the car early in the season and then the DNFs in Spa and Suzuka. Had he finished anywhere in the top 7 spots for either of those races, the outcome of the championship would've been in his favor. But as it was mentioned, racing has the unexpected quotient which can never be eliminated from the possible outcomes.

Nonetheless, 2012 was a very exciting season. All the different winners in the first 1/3 of the season kept everyone guessing who was the driver/team to beat. The new track at COTA is awesome and retaining some of the classics such as Silverstone, Spa & Monza made for a great season calendar to follow. 2013 should be a great one.

Lastly, the new line up of commentators for NBC & NBC Sports Network has been confirmed. Leigh Diffy (sp?), David Hobbs and Steve Matchett. Of the 3, Steve is the one I prefer the most. I liked watching his Chalk Talk videos on Speed's website which dove into the technical realm of F1. Hopefully that trend can continue.

So until the first race in Australia in mid-March next year, all we can do is watch the remainder of the silly season shake out with driver changes and teams starting their winter testing in a couple of months. Can't wait!

    Jon
