    1) just buy some snow tires for your 318 you cheap skate.

    2) cut off your penis and buy the lezbaru (especially a forester)

3)if you are worried about having to fix things, an ix isn't for you. i am guessing by your post, you can't afford to buy a nice one since this thread has the air of a penniless 15 year old.

    4) as suggested above, just buy an old ratted out cherokee. they run forever.

You're probably going to get smoked by one of these one day.

In terms of performance, Car & Driver measured the 0-60 sprint in an unbelievable 5.3 seconds--a stunning testament to the combination of traction and turbocharged thrust.

I've seen some people test them at 0-60 in 5.1. That's pretty damn strong.

The rest of what you said I agree with though.

The last iX I had I sold with 230K+ miles. 65K miles were put on by me and it had extensive service history prior to that from 3 previous, loving owners. Transfer case issues? ZERO. Major issues? ZERO.

You know why you always hear about iX xfer cases breaking? Because people beat the snot out of these cars and do stupid shit with them that would destroy any car.

Find a nicely preserved iX and buy it. Subarus are for Hello Kitty texting neo hippies that voted for... oh, nevermind. Just buy an iX.

Cool story bro. Tell it again.
          1) I'm not a cheap skate if I know that my car isn't going to make it. And why are you talking shit when you live in Texas? Have you ever seen snow?
          2) I just graduated high school. 19 years old with a full time job and going to school. My pay check is shitty but I'm still sure that I make more than a penniless 15 year old. And ya I can't afford one right now b/c of my job. And I'm not worried about fixing anything. It's finding the parts is what I'm worried about.

Great philosophy, you should voice your opinion like this to everyone who is just trying to get a decent answer

this. i would say a larger contributing factor would be combined with neglect and a general lack of maintenance.

27 years growing up in michigan, so yeah, you could say i do know something about snow.

^i think the prosecution rests on this one.

here is the deal with ix parts: i own three of them so i think it can be safely stated that i know something about them. transfer cases(especially the manual version) are hard to find. other parts really are not. when it comes down to it, all ix parts are indeed out there and available both new and used if you can afford to pay for them. apparently you can't so i suggest looking for different type of vehicle that you can afford and more importantly afford to maintain.

rather, here is some better advice: of course 4wd is better in the winter but is certainly isn't necessary. there are lots of people that drive up to ski slopes with 2wd and rwd cars. i skied 35-40 days a year when i was in college with a rwd vehicle. i always made it to the slope because i had a set of winter tires for my car.

sensible people on a budget spend their money wisely and purchase a set of snow tires to drive on in the winter time instead of buying another vehicle. it isn't rocket science. instead of wasting your time with pie in the sky threads that we have all seen a thousand times, get back to work and save up for a set of tires.

if you do wind up with a 4wd vehicle, you are likely still going to be in the same position that you are in now and will need to spend 5-600.00 a set of "blizzaks" anyway.(unless by some lucky chance the previous owner has included them with the car) in all cases, a 2wd car with good snow tires will outperform a awd car with performance tires on icy/snowy winter roads.

i apologize if my advice sounds harsh. in my formative years, sometimes people with more experience in life would give me a reality check you apparently are in need of now. one day you will thank me for this and you, in turn, can pass along good advice to some other clueless teenager.

See the deal is I would be buying this car in the middle of summer when I know that it isn't in high demand. When I get the car, I then will save up for some snow tires....this would take one paycheck so I wouldn't really be in the same predicament.

Thank you for the advice. But I never needed a reality check, that happened when I got out of high school and got my own job and was able to pay for things. I'm not clueless if I know that I will be needing a second car, just wondering what to get for a DD and something to get me up to the mountain. Plus my car right now is going to be turning into my project car. That's why I'm looking for a second car.

Again, thank you for the advice. I'll take it into consideration. Thanks for looking out.

iX is retarded in the snow. I cant believe the snow wheeling its capable of.

Ya I'm pretty sure the IX is the lucky winner. Might be getting one here in a month or two. But might just keep saving up

Ya there might be things to fix but nothing to completely take it off the road for a few months. Looking at more for buying one around $3500 but that time wont be till summer
