Would you sacrifice an E34 M5 for an S38 powered E30?

I love reading everyone's opinion. Thanks for the replies!

Take a look at this m5, great condition being owned and maintained by someone who takes every effort to make the car incredible and it's not sold yet. People circle jerk over hand built m's (I'm in the circle too, i just don't want the cracker), but no one ponies up the cash. Put an s38 e30 up for the same price and watch how fast it sells.

Very good point! At this point, I'm leaving the car together. In the future, I'd like to swap in a S62 with a steering rack (If clearance permits), and swap the S38 into a lighter chassis where it can really move the car well.

Keep and restore the M5, it will be worth significantly more than a "Hot rod" e30 will be in the long run.

that is a fact of collectable auto's. if you don’t care about it, sell it to someone who does, and buy whatever motor you want to swap into your e30.

it usually only takes a few years to go from a fully depreciated car to unaffordable collectable Automobile when they begin to appreciate.

it is why I don’t own an e body Hemi cuda'

I don't know what's wrong with you guys, I'd definately part out an early model 318I and move the drivetrain over to an M5. It's just a shitty e30 after all.

Keep the E30, I probably wont ever sell mine. Theres two Mercedes guys over here in my troop that say my E30 is a peice of crap compaired to their 2005+ 4 door cede's, I just grin and shake my head and walk away, not even worth the conversation.

I wouldn't dismantle an M5 that's worthy of restoration, even if I wasn't willing to do the resto. I'd sell it to someone who would either DD it or claim to fix it up. If it was crashed or a total rust bucket, I'd find nothing wrong with yanking the hardware.

The e34 M5 is one of my favorite cars BMW ever made. I actually like it more than my e30. My dad has one (that will one day be mine, although it might be awhile) and I've driven it on track and around town many times. It's just an all around fantastic car when they're in good shape, and even on stock suspension the thing handles like you wouldn't believe. I know they aren't worth a ton, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to take a salvageable one apart.

If it's totalled, then obviously yes. If it just needs TLC, don't be a dick.
