Work gloves, no gloves, disposable gloves?

    Hey,

The majority of us work on our cars, small things like spark plug and oil changes, to installing a new turbo so you can go sideways all day long. While working on a vehicle I usually never wear gloves, unless it's the mechanics work gloves and I'm doing something bigger like wheel related, removing the transmission, etc.

While i was home last time working on my car i noticed we had some disposable gloves kicking around, the thick ish blue ones, and threw a pair on. Worked out pretty good, only tore one glove the whole time and kept my hands clean. Made cleaning up 100 times easier and didn't interfere with work.

So r3V, what do you use and are there any brands better than others?

Mechanix gloves are great, but $20 a pop? I wear those, but I also use cheap or old / worn motocross gloves which are basically the same thing. Sometimes you can pick up a set of those for like $4-8. For oil changes I use the disposable gloves, or nothing.

As a professional, not a home DIY guy, I go through about a box and a half of nitrile gloves a month. I swear by them.

Depends on what I do sometimes, very rarely I use gloves.

I always start with gloves. nitrile or my mechanix gloves but i always end up taking them off.

The problem is that I have small hands, medium size is a little too big and gets in the way. I can't find small nitrile gloves locally.

I only use gloves when I am doing brakes, other than that, I feel like I have no feeling if something is on my hands. I do wash my hands atleast 30-50 times a day at work though.

Yeah, I always use Harbor Freight brand nitrile gloves. They're like $7 a box on sale, for 100. For messy jobs that your hands will get filthy, like fooling around with the power steering system, it's a lot easier than scrubbing your hands and fingernails afterwards for like 10 minutes.

only time I wear gloves is when I am working around hot shit. Other than that, gloves remove the sensitive feel I get when not using them.

                  Yes.
When chaning brakes, brake dust is one of the things you almost dont get off your hands, I hate it.

I go with blue thick nitrile ones. If I don't have those, I'll use mechanis gloves.
Costco has. 2 pack of snap-on branded gloves for $20 bucks. Best deal I've seen other than the harbor freight cheapies

I never where gloves, I like being able to feel the little bolts with my finger tips. I can see why people do though, my hands are always black for a few days after.

I get gloves for free at work so of course I wear them. Brake clean and other assorted chemicals on your hands all day starts to get old after a while.

I can't use work gloves it makes my hands feel clumsy and I always seem to rip the disposable gloves.

I have a pair of Canadian Tire mechanic's type gloves I we're for most things, but for more 'delicate' things I have black nitrile disposable ones. Cheap and durable and keep your hands protected and clean.
