I own an 87is and love it. Noticeably faster than my friends 318is. Yeah the m20 is older, but it makes a great sound!

I've driven both in stock form.

      87 325is is what I would take.

Get the 318 - late models own. I started out with an 87 325e and I always wanted a LM. The LM cars feel more solid - little things that make them better.

I test drove a 318iS and really liked the feeling. Plus Kopies look great!

First of all-- have you chipped your e yet (I think I responded about the chip for your eta in another thread) --- it will sure feel a lot more
like an i - do it NOW.

Tough call. I think in terms of re-sale to people like those on this board,
a nice 87is modified with plastic bumpers would sell better, and is 2k less.
I also read today that the 87 is is special in that it has two fuel pumps
whereas after 87 they canned that. On the other hand the iS already has
some nice bumpers, suspension, and is just newer. Are you the type who
wants to do a lot of work yourself? If so get the 325is, if not get the 318is.

That would be my bet too. Nah but in all seriousness, they both sound like nice cars and it really depends on you. I'm sure you'll continue to get many mixed opinions on which one to go for but at the end of the day, it's your choice. Either way, you're going to have a fun E30 iS!

              What?

The only things that I haven't done my self on the car was getting the exhaust welded and getting the head refinished. The 318is is def DIY.

I'm bias towards the 318is. You really have to know what E30 you want. I didn't care anything about the more torque of a 325; I wanted a very tossable car.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

^^ very true. the 318is is light as crap. and if you want more tq then get a m50 for it. it would still be lighter than the 325 and faster.

My 325 is completely stock, konis and h&r's,chip, exhaust, are comming at the end of the month. Oh it has a k&n intake, so its not completely stock.
I tend to consider my 325 i have now as the DYI in my garage. So im leaning more towards the 318 as it will be my daily transportation im thinkin. But the 87' is cheaper and easier for me to get, but id really like suspension and bumpers already done if i were to buy a pre 88' as im in school full time and am having difficulty finding time to work on even my 325 i have now.. None the less it is a fantastic deal with just over 100k on it..

Wow, that car looks great. That 318 would have to be a great deal to make me forget about that 87.

dang i wish the 325 looked like crap cause now its going to make it even harder for you to decide. How bout pics of the 318? I think both are winners. You would prob be really happy w/ both.

                            Hey Mitch,

It's cool to have another member on the board from atlantic Canada, not many of us here!
Like everyone else pretty much says, both are great cars but with slightly different attitudes.
Can you drive both to compare? That may help you decide.
With the price of fuel here in Canada ($1.10 per litre = $4.50 per gallon USD guys!!) would make me lean toward the 318is.
                            Just a thought.
