Eh, the M535i could be, but IIRC M wasn't it's own then, thus a normal WBA vin #. I consider real M cars to have the WBS, otherwise, it's a in house motorsports car. Not knocking the e12/e28 M535i, I love them and they are a rarity, but the engine was not an S engine, and the VIN is a standard WBA win.
That said, I'd kill for am M90 e12 M535i.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

Fair enough. I think both the e30 and e28 will continue to age well and are current/future classics. My vert will be getting the white on black antique plates come next January. IMO BMW was at their quality peak in the late 80s and I have a feeling most of the people on this site don't have to be convinced of that.
You're in Waynesboro right? Maybe I should drive over from Cville sometime and see the e28. Where do you work?Comment

I agree. E30s are fun, the (my) e28 is just a beast now. I love the looks of e28s more, and the way they go together. E30s have always been looked down upon by me, but they are very fun cars, and solid to boot.Fair enough. I think both the e30 and e28 will continue to age well and are current/future classics. Yup, lol. The e28 is kinda rough, which is why I haven't posted any recent pics. I work at Foreign Affairs in Staunton.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

I hear your argument but I'd still say the M535i is more of a true M car than the stateside e36 332is which came with the WBS VIN and an "S" engine.Eh, the M535i could be, but IIRC M wasn't it's own then, thus a normal WBA vin #. I consider the M5, M6, and M3 (e28, 24, &30) to be the true M cars. When M was just starting their own thing. Others are a kind of sportified standard model. Not saying they're not awesome cars, but they just don't have that defining M characteristics, IMO.
E36 and up seem to be more of a crowd pleaser M car. Still fast and all, but dumbed down for the executive who wants to DD the car to the office every day, not the enthusiast who wants to track the car every chance he gets. Granted there are exceptions to this, but they seem to be trying to make the M brand more of a peoples car, not an exclusive sports car to be proud of owning. The # of stance bullshit e36/e46/e90 etc etc M cars shows this.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment
