Source for a steering rack?

Hi, guys ... was wondering if anyone had a good source for an OEM or OEM-quality steering rack (1987 325is), either new or remanufactured. BavAuto has what I'm guessing is a solid remanufactured unit for $600, but I've seen them going for much less here and there online (of course, I have no idea whether these other venders sell junk or what). If somebody's had a good experience with a vendor who offers a much better deal on a quality product, help a brother out ...

1st off if you are going to swap out your rack you definitely ought to go for an e36 rack. Lots of searchable threads on this.

You can get a Maval reman from a range of places for around $270 or try rackdoctor.net. I'm not sure about core charges if you are going from an e30 rack as I bought a used one off of CL, but if you are even considering spending $600 (yikes), this should be a bargain either way...oh..and this is not a recommendation as I have no experience with either of the above. Other will no doubt weigh in.

Typically yes, since its pure supply and demand. In our case they'd wind up with a stack of useless e30 cores and no e36 rebuilds FS.

Having said that, it never hurts to ask..or just add the core charge to your cost.
