my dad has the previous 650i. It out handled my e30 in the corners easy. When you are driving it, it doesn't feel as big as it looks.

yep. i would never want one, but it's a GT/touring car, not a lightweight race car. It's like an E31, only cheaper, and way faster, and probably more reliable..

lets not make comments about who can afford it and who can't. Its pointless. As enthusiast, when a car like this is released, we will form opinions. A forum is an appropriate place to voice them. Besides alot of cars like this are really made for us, no matter if we can afford it or not!

Any disappointment's about this car has to be limited to only SUBJECTIVE looks! The m6 is made to be better than the last gen in everyday. It has more hp, better fuel economy. Better power/weight, interior volume etc. We must not forget that this is not some bespoke 1 of 100 nurburgring destroyer. This m6 is the same chassis they hope they'll sell tons of. The same chassis that you can get diesel motor in and they'll likely down the line introduce a 628i with a 4 cylinder like the f10 5 series. This car has to be alot of things to a lot of people and its made to appease a wide margin. Not the hand handful of you guys who want to something to autoX in a parking lot on weekends. If they wanted to make a 700hp 3000lbs car that would destroy everything, they could, lets keep in mind they run a business, where there goals are profit and sales. In these terms the m6 makes perfect sense. And lets be honest, what competitor will this car have and even has a chance at being better? e63 coupe? I don't think so! Also alot of the weight isn't necessarily there fault, with new safetly regs yearly hear + euro ncap.

Preach! I firmly believe, that we is why BMW is the number luxury brand in the world. During the 90's BMW did not sell better than MERC while they were easily better cars to drive. I believed E65 E63 and e60 are almost entire to blame for turnaround sales. Look at Mercs. from the early to mid 2000's CLK e class s class and slk and compare them to there BMW counterparts. Honestly regardless of what people say these designs sold very well. And sure you can say their BMW they would have sold anyway, but they sold better than Merc all for sudden! Also his designs and "bangle butt" were copied across numerous makes a models.

I don't understand how a lot of guys can sit and bash bmw. If you live the real world like most of us and you can't justfy owning some lotus, zr1 or whatever you thing is. You can't can't really beat BMW as an enthusiast. Buying a 3 or 5 is buying the best sports luxury car money can buy generation after generation. They do so many things well!

Even if you don't like BMWs new cars - be glad they are selling and the business is doing well. BMW is good enough to provide parts support for 20-30+ year old cars. The E30 platform would be dead without that support.

Try to buy new parts from Ford for a 25 year old Taurus. Either they're NLA or they're aftermarket, and usually expensive as hell. My friend has a GM truck that's only 15 years old, and he can't get shit for it. These are cars they made 10s of millions of..

I see a lot of glass in the top of that car, and with the convertible, its got a folding hard top doesn't it? That spells lots of weight in an area you don't want it.

It just looks like another expensive throw-away car just like everything else on the market.

And I have no interest in doing so. It suffers from having the same pet peeves I have with every other new car for sale these days. I'll be honest, I can't think of any new car for sale at any price range that I would actually want to own. They all have lousy rear visibility, and they are all computer controlled and designed to be thrown away in 10 years. I don't want power windows, power seats, power door locks, computer navigation, or for that matter computer controlled anything.

My I'd give all of that up on my M3 with pleasure. I don't want it or need it.

Word, I've gotten sideway's while riding in an m6 at good speed, smooth as fuck

GREAT car, but would never want a coupe that big.

Yes. Just like almost everything produced in this class for the last decade.

                          To contradict myself:
The power to weight ratio is nearly the same as the last generation. It might not be as good to drive as the e60 considering it has the same p/w with some kind of turbo lag possibly.

This only works up to a point- I think there are some nonlinearities in the scaling of mass vs the solutions to dealing with mass (perhaps relating to something as basic as surface-to-volume/mass scaling nonlinearly)- like the tires really only can get so big in practical terms, the added problem of unsprung weight with massive wheels and tires, the fact that you need a stiffer suspension to counter the increased mass (which is at the same height off the ground) which compromises ride quality and handling (although this is increasingly countered by modern multilink suspension- perhaps why many mid engine supercars now range in the 3600-4000lb range.)
I'm not an engineer so I don't know, but you'd think weight is a reason why, for example, try as they might a Bentley Continental SuperSports still isn't the equal of a DBS or 599, according to Car magazine i think it was.
