I seriously remember, 5 years ago, spending all damn day at the junkyard picking the best parts. E30s and E28s everywhere. It was my Zen area.

      Now:
Fucking vultures everywhere. All late model cars are stripped after 2 hours at the yard.

Cult following is when you get into 2002 M3 territory, where clean examples or shells are going for $5k. IMO

Still love the e30 though. Have had mine for just over 13 years now, and had a 91 RHD 318i before that.

The best thing about that is that nobody even knows who gets the parts. Around here there is a pretty tight community and everyone knows 95% of the other E30 drivers that are a part of the 'community'. At some point vultures found out about the value of certain parts and hocking them on eBay makes for a simple tax-free day job.

I think it has increased a lot in the last 5 years because everyone wants a cheap compact RWD car and every 240sx is beat to hell

I find it strange that the S14 240sx never gets built up as a good handling track car since it has a better suspension setup than an E30.

To me, the people who don't buy an E30 out of a genuine love for them are the people graduating from VW's and 240sx's. The stance crap isn't helping this.

It's fine if someone wants to modify a car their own way, but I just hope it doesn't end up getting really bad to where there is a permanent bad reputation like modified Hondas have

I would LOVE an Integra or Prelude with some sticky tires and suspension, what a great handling, quick, and reliable car that would be. I just cant deal with driving something that looks like what all the high school kids, drug dealers, and boy-racers drive.

I came from the 240 world :(. I'm pretty sure I love my e30s more than all 6? of my 240's.

E30s are popular because e28s are rarer.

When I got into the e30 game 6 years ago, the pnp did have lots of parts available...even some rare parts that would sit till next weekend. I also remember looking on ebay for parts with a match for "e30" would come up with about 5k in parts. Now its >12K! Now most of those parts are cheap crap parts...only to look closer as people are trying to get on the e30 bandwagon. I also think that some are riding on the coat-tails of the m3. It has almost been 2 body changes for the 3 series so the POS e30s are dirt cheap.

A buddy of mine bought 2 very nice M3s for less than 7K/each, ~5 years ago. Geez.

QFT. The main problem with Japanese sports cars are their stereotypical clientele.

I believe I've only come across one clean-looking track oriented 240 in all of my track days. Talking to the guy, the car will probably be destroyed soon. I've seen a handful of primered beaters with high-school dorifto setups, but all in HPDE1. I wish our rear suspension were that sweet.

E30s have gained a lot of momentum in the last 5 years. I fear that the bubble might burst at some point.

I actually noticed something similar to this the other day on ebay, instead of saying wheels with 4x100 fit are "honda" fitment, cheaper wheel makers are listing them as "e30" fitment, very interesting... (good idea for a thread george)

This is why when I search wheels it enter.
"e30 wheels -xxr -sportmax -esm -honda -civic -scion -toyota -18" -17" -19 -rota -blue -pink -red -white -yellow"
