It would have been a good deal if you needed transfer case and differentials for a nice iX.

            paid too much?

This one was $3k, and looked like this when I bought it.
so you might have paid a little much for one that's been tagged.

I wouldn't worry abt it. So whatev if it might have been "tagged", the damage looks repairable and it all depends on what you want to do with it.

I purchased my 88 325is 9 yrs ago for 7200 with 150k miles. Was I crazy? yup! but it also checked out well and was a hoot!

I'm still driving it today and it still makes me happy. Cut you losses and move on bro

depends on how much you spend to straighten the body out.

but all in all i say you did good, from what i know 5speed ix's are pretty rare, and around here i usually see them go for a pretty penny.

if the drivetrain is in good shape (transfercase works, transmission doesnt grind) it's not totally bad. a decent ix should usually run you $3k, whether you buy it for $500 or $2500.

looks like after you put some money into the body it'll be good. get a new fender, hood, and valence, used, already the same color. bend the radiator core support back, hopefully it's not too bad.

do a jack test before you do anything. that'll determine if it's worth fixing. if it fails the jack test, just part it.

I know exactly what is it my friend. I am a dealer and have purchased cars with only a Bill of Sale from salvage auctions before. Laws must be different in WA, but usually these bill of sales clearly say "This vehicle is not to be registered or titled in the United States."

In any case, you overpaid by about $1000 IMHO

I paid 1800 for mine and it was running, it only needed one brake line fixed then it was good for the road. But i think mine has a bit more rust, but it wasn't smashed up.

                              This.

Sometimes you gamble a little extra on the chance that you did your research well. Sometimes you pay a little more because it's the one you want. Sometimes you screw up and simply pay too much.

In the end, it's your ass in the seat, and if your ass is happy, then job well done.
