    e30 1.8t swap?

Didn't know which section to put this in. I bought an e30 a while back to restore but the more i stripped into it, the more and more rust i found (thanks ontario) so i parted it out and scrapped the rest. Ive always loved these cars but decided to build my vw motor . Was wondering if the swap has been done before or if anyone has any leads. Ive searched and searched so please dont hound me for not doing it. I know transmission adapters were made for Suzuki's because alot of owners liked to run tdi's but other than that didnt come across much

    thanks in advance!

why downgrade from the reliability and power, not to mention cost efficiency (you can get an m20 that people removed from their dailys for swaps for a couple hundred) for a volkswagen engine?

Myself, I've came from owning 4 mk3s and reading all about vw engines (anything from the 1.8 16v up to vr's). And honestly, besides some stupid things my m20 with 220k runs a hell of a lot better then any of my vw engines at 90k.

I just feel there is too much fab and its not worth the cost of putting in an unreliable vw engine in. The only real pro is that you would be one of the few who took on the task, atleast from what ive read.

Then there's the whole transverse mounting issue, but that's just a minor sidetrack really...

my guess is it probably will never happen, but sure swapping in a powerful 4 cyl motor is possible. the 20v turbo is a very potent motor when built right.

I always thought 1.8ts were kinda junkey, they have ventilation problems and build up a lot of sludge. A few of my buddies have had those and they have had problems with them.

Probably easiest to put it in the trunk

well people have done the audi 2.2 turbo 20v into an e30. pretty sure it's somewhere on the net. i have no idea why you'd want to put in a 1.8t being so under powered where an m50 boosted would blow the doors off of it at any point of the power band.

bmw's should have bmw motors, period.

That would be a pretty sweet swap. I didn't think they were terrible motors, lots of guys build them up to some substantial numbers.

They are shitty motors, I have dealt with alot of them. But if you want a nice 4 banger thats relatively simple swap then get an sr20
