    Importing a Euro S50

Anyone here imported a complete engine from Europe before?
If so, besides the large amounts for shipping, anything else I should take into account?

    Thanks R3v.

That would cost an arm and a leg considering you're not only across the Atlantic but you're on the West coast as well. I shipped an engine by truck in Canada before from central to the East coast and it was $500. I know that's not a great estimate, just tossing it out there.

Customs will call and want to know what it is and that's about it. Agree that it may be cost prohibitive. I shipped two to England recently and it cost a pretty penny. I don't think a s50, euro or not, is worth it.

contact Rui Azevedo on the S14 forum. His shop has imported many euro motors.

by the time you factor in shipping, a local s54 would probably be a better choice.

Which S50 are we talking about? S50B30 isn't going to be worth the trouble getting it over here.

S50B32 is pretty much the same motor as an S54B32, only harder to get... and S54 makes a little more power. S54 would be much easier to find, etc.

Why are we thinking about euro S50's again? I forgot

Ah, well if you want it bad enough then there's nothing to stop you. IMO S54 would be better and easier to find one.

i really dont know much about the process, but from what i understood, customs wont allow the engine unless its for a racing application. also you will have problems with EWS unless you get something flashed, Abrahams motor sports does it though. and then you have to find a good engine without seeing it if you go on your own.

i do remember finding a place that will import them for you and then get them all ready for dropping them in, but it was more expensive.

i think i made a thread about it 2 summers ago...

                        good luck!

Engines are not that much of an issue these days, but that being said you can't walk into your local dealer and order parts for a NON US compliance pieces. AKA buy special order pieces any more.

S54 swaps will as a result become more of the norm.
