Real M3 convertibles have a VIN with WBSBB01 or WBSBB05. Real M3 convertibles have shadowline trim and 5 lug wheels. Real M3 convertibles were not sold at a dealership in the US, etc.

I believe it's clear that your car is not an M3 convertible. Your VIN tells you what it is. It did NOT come from the factory the way it looks now.

It "may" have a Hartge engine but that may be difficult to verify without opening it up. Does the valve cover look like the one in the photo below?

Wow. That thing is far worse than I'd imagined. Worst color, mediocre bodywork (being generous here), poor condition, no maintenance done to it...

Sorry to say, but the value on this thing is not good at all right now. As is, the $1,500 number is about right. You're going to have to spend money and put some time and effort into it to see much more than that.
