i think it was a mistake, it was an admission that mercedes did it better than them by choosing a big four instead of a small six in the 190e while they choose a small six up in the 3 series until they built the m3, basically saying "hey mercedes, you were right 4 bangers were the way to go in the first place" other than that the engine they put in the m3 is freaking amazing.

it was already stated - class rules dictated 2.3 liters of displacement. a 4 cylinder is the only thing that really made sense. it had nothing to do with what mercedes was doing. they basically just chopped 2 cylinders off the M88/S38 anyway.

imagine how lame it is to put a small displacement motor in a car that makes same horse power of larger engine or more.
A car that revs high and fast what a dumb idea!
the lamest car ever is e30 m3 my eta is same car just put roll bar in it and it smokes the e30 m3 on track!
much like the first steps the moon being fake the e30 m3 dtm footage ,rally racing,hill climbs are all fake propped clips.
they should have just raced a stock 325is back in 80's so we would have lost every race. history means nothing any way.Hey because I own it its the best!
