ok the commonly seen "confederate flag" was actually a battle flag used by many armies including va and tn. HOWEVER it take from the second nation flag of the Confederacy (called the Stainless Banner)

Its key factor was it was carried into battle fighting the north. So it directly associated with the south's resistance.

While yes it is a flag of the Confederacy, I don't think its anti-American. The war was a major part of our history and helped shape our nation

I live in the south and while I'll never fly a confederate flag, I'm not offended by those who do.
