I lol'd at first page... Dis thread is full of win guise!
I feel really bad for the OP, but I couldnt help laughing at the replies. Lol This thread got epically douched..
I think it's time we nailed the coffin..
I'm no e30 genius, but I took a structure analysis class last semester. IIRC, the sunroof is placed in between the main support pillars on the roof that form into the ABC pillars. Sunroof or no, I don't think it would affect ragiditty much, if anything at all. This would be because the roof doesn't support the car, the support beams do. It would be purely aesthetics unless the addition of the sunroof removes one of the support beams, which, since my car doesn't jack-knife and split in half every time I take a turn; isnt very likely.Last edited by JinormusJ; 03-31-2012, 08:57 AM.Comment

There is no place for logic in this thread

My question is why does it matter since 90% of the r3v owners with slick tops will hardpark them and later drive them into an F150-AlexComment

No scientific study, but when I bought my Speed 3, they were never offered with a sunroof, the reason being "chassis rigidity".Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Possibly being that the designers couldn't design an effective sunroof without cutting out core roof support beams..? There's a lot of reasons a car would lose rigidity in the roof, but I'm assuming the actual roof PANEL wouldn't matter much in rigidity case since it's not an actual chassis part, it's really just a body panel.
My guess is that the speed 3 had extra reinforcement from the design and the sunroof couldn't make the cut because the reinforcement was needed more than a hole in the roof
Now the only question would be... If you put a slick top in and added an extra beam of reinforcement; would that change rigidity..? :Mindblown:

Listen here n00b.. Cause obviously your post count is way lower than mine and I need to teach you a thing or two..
There's no way that can happen unless you strap some 45 lbs disc weights to the trunk and cabin, deck, and set two on top of the engine. Each weight you can fit in there is more downforce, and will allow a more jetcar experience. True story bro.Comment
