No way he'll get $50K for an '86, slant nose or not. As a matter of fact most slant noses are looked down upon because so many of them were faked during the whole '80's/Miami Vice days. (Yeah, I had to live through it :? ) Personnally, I think the slant nose absolutely destroys the look of the car.
Anyway, nothing even comes close to the Pelican Parts forums when it comes to Porsches. They also have a fledgling E30 board, along with many others.
And when it comes to old 911's, only the pre-74, non-impact bumper cars are really considered "old."

'72 911T (yeah, the "rare" one, with the oil filler on the fender. Only they'e not that rare. Bummer)

My assessment that he would not fetch $50K for a slant nose has nothing to do with my distaste for the design; it's merely an observation based on current Porsche pricing trends. In general, the slant nose option adds little or no price premium over a standard model, and pre-'87 Carreras rareley command $25K, even for one in mint condition. The '87-'89 Carreras get a bit more due to an improved transmission design, but not much. Heck, the 993's ('95-'99) are selling for $35K all day long.
That's not saying that your friend's car isn't a nice car; heck, the right buyer might come along and give him his asking price. The respray on the front does detract a bit from the value, however.
One more thing: I'm not trying to start a big debate here, just offering some thoughts. I follow the whole Porsche thing pretty carefully, since it's not only a passion for me but also a source of income. I manufacture some special parts for 911's, so it behooves me to keep my eye on trends in the Porsche world. I'd also like to buy an '87-89 Carrera in the next two years (the 325is won't last forever :( ), so I'm always watching prices on these models.
Cheers,
Jim

Some BMW drivers are P-car haters, but how can't you love the 911? GT2 is the shit. :D
When I retire, I'm going to be that old guy in the 911 turbo at the autocrosses.

My friend has a 951 that he totalled. His porsche brembo brakes failed, he he flew into a corn field at around 60mph if not more. He's rebuilding it now. They are really quick cars, but I think the rear is ugly (looks like a whale). 944/951/924 are the "poor mens porsches," if that's even possible.
