    Possible Purchase

    91 MTech II package vert
    172k
Car Fax checks out no accidents

Car is located at a dealer - the car looks to be well maintained from the pictures. I haven't had a chance to check it out in person yet so until then I won't assume it is mint. Called the dealer but no answer, asking price is $6,000. Assuming there is no rust or major issues, is this priced reasonably?

Well, it's definitely what a private party would sell it for assuming it's good condition.

Appears to be pretty damn clean. I would drop 4500 on it if it was a hardtop.
      Different strokes for different folks.

It looks like it's worth buying. I'd pay $6k if it's turnkey car.

too bad its auto, you could probably get the price lowered alot though. especially because its a dealer he will jack the prices up alot. id say possibly 4k if its in very good condition

My biggest concern is rust - If I make the purchase I'll be doing a 5speed swap. Thanks for the input.

Just spoke to the dealer - car has a new top, no rust, and the timing belt/water pump has been replaced. Going to see the car soon, hopefully no surprises.

are those the right wheels? no heated seats. did MTII come with an is spoiler? top of the rear seat has been patched to fix where it dries out and rips. rear window needs to be replaced if you want to see out of it. if its a real MTII i could see $5k, but it really needs to be manual for it to be desirable to me.

those are not the right wheels, they look like 16s. i dont recognize them, BBS RAs maybe... but i dont think they were made in 16s.

car looks great. do not expect the price to drop because its automatic. pl3 does not know what he's talking about and apparently thinks the whole world is contained in the r3vlimited forums. automatic convertibles hold a lot of value for most of america.

i couldnt tell if it was just the picture on my computer, but i was thinking bbs ra's also, not sure on the size though.

on the plus side, you do have the 13 button OBC, cruise control, and seats that arent thrashed. if the power top works well and the car is rust free, go for it! (i would definitely haggle on the price though)

also, run the VIN to find out if its a real mtech 2 vert, the appearance package, or a modification. the answer to that will drastically change the value of the car.

Just came back from looking at the car. The wheels were some 4x100 TSW of some sort - the window trim had electric tape to make it look like it was shadow trim, the bumpers did not align, the dash was cracked... the list goes on. I opened the trunk and water poured into the trunk carpet from the tool box. The engine had some oil around the block as well. The internet price said $5995 but when I asked the dealer about the price he told me he wouldn't let it go for anything under $7k. When I asked him if this was an authentic MT2 he said, "Why wouldn't it be?" When I asked about the oil leak, water leak, etc. his response was its common on this car and is being sold as is. The car was extremely dirty and I don't believe it is an authentic MT2. I think it is a regular 325i with a MT2 kit on it. The overall dealer experience was unpleasant as well.

In case you are curious, here is the dealer info:

what an ass. You should have said, "I am pretty leaky myself, its a common problem" then

I paid 7 for mine 119k 5 speed. real deal 91 mtech. $5k is a good price for any late vert in good shape with less than 140k (I never looked at verts with higher mileage than that). If you could get him to $5k I'd take it. The dealer was asking $10k for mine and thought it was an "m3technic"

Edit just read sorry. Its not authentic. 91's came only in brilliantrot , macao and sterling. It would also have the interior like mine, stock lowered suspension and 15 euro weaves. No spoiler

I don't think he realizes that the only people even interested to invest that much in an "authentic" MTechII would be the "forum geeks"..?
