I need to give my girl a bath tomorrow and got to thinking about car wash. I normally use dish soap and water. But what is everyone else using? Any disadvantages to using dish soap?
what are you washing with?

Dish soap is fine, it will strip all the wax off the car so you should wax afterwards. I just would not make a habit of using it. It can accelerate the oxidation of the finished surface.Comment

Lots of people use dish soap actually.
I knew about the wax too... Any advantages to using a "car soap" other than that? preferences on soap?

I've heard people using it too. I guess I'd like to keep the wax on my car, as it takes longer to wax a car vs washing it right the first time?
In my opinion, using dish soap to wash the car is like taking one step forward, two steps back.M CoupeComment

Preferences? I use Meguiar's. I also use some other 'higher quality' stuff while washing the car at the dealership. I can't think of the name, but I can get back to you on it. It doesn't strip the wax off the car (Just like other brands), which is quite nice.M CoupeComment

Well i use dish soap for motorcycles (no wax to strip) so I've been doing it for years on them. I used it last time to wash my e30 (first hand wash) but needed to wax anyway. Thus why I am getting opinions on washes

I use a car shampoo from Wesmar. It is called shampoo and wax, it does not contain any of the wax stripping components soaps do.Comment
