American vs. International octane ratings

Hey guys,

Recently I've been looking at some conforti chips from TMS or ebay/whatever, and have been surprised that it only rates for 91 octane fuel. Here in Australia that is the minimum fuel rating we get, a long with 95 and 98 octane.

So, main question - Are the octane ratings measured differently depending on country? Because the chip with advanced timing/more fuel I would expect to ping like a mofo on 91.

Odd... I know it varies here in the US depending on the region. Here in FL we have 87, 91 and 93

Yes, the US rates their gas by a much different method than the rest of the world.

91 US is roughly what your 95 is.

as stated, Anti-Knock Index (AKI, and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2) where R is RON and M is MON

confusing crap but i always get 89 and hope for the best because i am too cheap for the 93 and most places dont have 91. I also only buy top tier fuels...

I think the Conforti chip is 91+ right? ... that's 91 or better.....

I think most gas in the us is now 10% ethanol now. Anyone speak to this?

Meh I bought an ebay chip for 30 bucks from the US asked the seller if it would work in Australia and he said yes and it has.

What about it? It means reduced fuel economy (lower energy density) and much reduced longevity (ethanol can separate from the gas over time, which is really, really bad because it is used to raise octane).

Ethanol free 92 AKI is still legal for street use in OR. :p

But can you find it?? Almost all the gas is mixed now

we have gas stations gown here that sell 100 octane too, thats legal, just hard to find
