    ok r3v...e30 drag car.

Plans are to build my e30 to a 80 percent track car 20 percent street.

Right now the main thing I can't decide on is motor. M/S series motors vs m30. Both engines will be built. Just keep going back and forth mentally. I know both are good motors but need plus or negatives from different views.

    Both will be turbo.

Drag car? You could have all the horsepower in the world, it won't make a difference on your times on the strip. The rear trailing arm design will just cause you to burn off your tires at the start.

Big turbo on a track car? Better be a pretty decent driver and learn to time the turbo lag coming in and out of corners.

Not trying to discourage you, these are just some things that people sometimes overlook.

              Very valid points.

Yes there is, it's called forced induction.

In this case, no. OP stated that either motor will be boosted. 8psi in 3.5L will put more power than 8psi in 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, or 3.2L.

Since you're sticking with BMW power. I'd go with the larger displacement and boost. So M30 is my vote.

For ease of maintenance and parts, I'd go with non-vanos M50 built to handle lots of boost. Or foxbody.
