hey guys so a little bit about me, i live in the bay area 17 years old been searching for an e30 for quite some time now. I've been juggling college, high school, and a part time job for almost six months now and been searching religiously where ever i could look and have had no luck, or have been too late to buy the car due to circumstances that weren't even in my hands. It's the last thing from exciting let me tell you, its more frustrating than anything. I mean is a white, black or red late model 2/4 door e30 so much to ask for? Sometimes i just don't get it, some people local to me sometimes end up picking up the exact e30 i have been looking for like it was nothing, why them and not me?. anyways im pretty beat by now, and have lost most of my hopes. is their any way you guys can encourage me to keep looking? Maybe share your search story?

Took me 6 months to find my '90 325i and I wasn't even being picky about colors(as you can see in my sig).
You're in SoCal, shouldn't be too hard, post a WTB on here and your local BMW club forum, and check out www.searchtempest.com and get to looking, be ready to buy so that when you find a good one it doesn't sell before you get to it(happened a few times to me in my search).
The M3 I found within a month of serious searching, someone in the BMW club hooked it up.sigpic

Holy Crap.. That's dedication..!
Took me about 4 months. Same boat as you, but I was juggling a full time job at 16 units in my engineering degree at my university. I found a few lookers, but I always arrived one hour late to the deals, so I never got any of the good ones from SoCal
I ended finding one in the Bay Area up in NorCal on Christmas vacation visiting my cousins. It wasn't EXACTLY what I wanted, but the engine was amazingly kept, the interior was immaculate, and I pretty much picked it up for parts car pricing.
It's not impossible, just takes perseverance

It took just under a year for me. But I could only look at cars on weekends since I had to look in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston. This caused me to miss out on ~10 good deals and realize Craigslist sellers rarely show any decency or courtesy. That really bugged me, I knew on several occasions I was the first to make an inquiry about their car and set up a date to see it only to have them sell it a day or two before I was going to see it.
Despite this I am happy with the car I bought, even though I over paid. But I have yet to see a substantially better car come up for sale since.
