When I shipped my 5 wheels from Indianapolis, IN to Monroe, NC (Prince Wheel Services did a great job) I used Fed EX, packed each wheel in a separate box, and total shipping was around $50 one way. So about $10 per wheel for shipping. Of course, I found boxes and bought bubble wrap.

I checked around, even listed the shipment on uShip.com. Fed Ex was by far the cheapest for me.

Wheels only. Obviously will be different for weight and distance.

I've shipped via USPS and UPS, both were around $180 for all 4 wheel, no tires (18"). Looked into getting a UPS account but it looked like the only advantage was I could pring shipping labes and they'd pick it up. Nothing about a discount as far as I could tell.

I agree. With tires, I have always shipped wheels with stretch film and cardboard to protect the faces. This makes packaging a breeze.

Shipping companies charge by outlying dimensions, so it will still be roughly ~22"x22"x10" per wheel.

Over the past 3 years, I've shipped 3 sets of 18" wheels from SC to CA by FedEx and never paid over $150. Perhaps shipping costs have increased since.

Depends on how far you're shipping them, I paid 350 to ship wheels from cali to me (ups), with tires. I'd work on doing without tires if you can, it'll save quite a bundle.

having an account at fed ex and ups will save you money, generally a 10 to 15% discount. if you spend more than 150 a month in shipping, the discount is better yet. fed ex ground is cheaper than ups by about 10 to 15% ups's billing system is a pain in the goddam ass. they send you a bill in the mail and you have like 10 days to pay it. if it is not received by their deadline, they assess a penalty. also, they have a bull shit department that audits all the shipments and you generally get another bill for the same shipment that ads a few bucks they supposedly forgot to charge you in the first place. for this reason, i don't use ups very often anymore. on the other hand, my local fedex office is staffed by worthless ghetto fucking retards. basically i have the option of getting shitty service and cheap no nonsense shipping rates at the orange and purple store or fantastic service and a big hassle with billing from shit brown. normally, i choose the cheap shipping.

buy shipping boxes at the uhaul store because they are like 3 bucks each instead of 10-15 bucks at ups or fedex.

for wheels with tires, bumpers, valances, and other large/heavy items, greyhound is the way to go. call their res number and get a quote. my guess is that 4 wheels with tires taped together 2x2 (2 packages) will be around 100 bucks or a little more.
