      Cheers fellas...

The MAF does not seem to be an option according to the technician, but I will check with Dastek S.A. for a conclusive answer.

I'm concerned about the cam settings (Schrick 272/272) because the engine just runs out of poop after 5500-6000rpm.

the schrick 284/272 cam would fit the bill then

a couple of people on here have successfully done the MAF conversion AFAIK

Thanks again.....it really is a fun engine!

Re the MAF, I meant that it is still uncertain whether or not the Unichip can tune the MAF to the car.....will check with the manufacturer of Unichip (Dastek S.A.).

Looks good, do you have any A/F graphs?

It looks like the engine is being chocked off a bit above 4000 rpm's. You need to open up the intake, head and exhaust! The torque drops off WAY to fast.

How much head work do you have?
                Big TB?
                Intake?
                Header?

It will pull much better if you flatten out the torque curve, and you need to remove the AFM, that will help a TON, I looked into the Unitchip, and I believe you can remove the AFM with it.

Back when I wanted to do Unichip, I talked to Carb Connection in WA, and they said they could tune it with a MAP sensor. All they needed to do was take voltages from the AFM before hand, and synthesize it with the Unichip so hte MAP reads right.
                  Good Luck,

nice work chris! glad to see sum figures posted for a Unichip system...looks like its a good bet, more bang for buck than the more serious ecu systems!

                    chrz for the graphs.

                      Thanks for the info fellas....

Everything is opened up on the intake side (larger AFM, bored TB, etc) with a mildly ported head, only a stock M20B25 intake manifold remains....The exhaust side is opened up except stock valves & the pipes leading from my headers to the center muffler to the exhaust are all stock size. The tuner advised to get larger pipes to allow all of the exhaust to escape with little or no hinderance. This is where I'll probably start as it will be the cheapest out here in Asia.

Once I get the thumbs up from Dastek about the MAF then I'll have that fitted and tuned and see where it stands. As for now besides the gains from the Unichip, the engine is obviously tuned very well and runs so much smoother and the knocking is gone so I'm quite pleased.

The tuner also mentioned that the cam might not be set correctly. Does the M20 have a cam adjuster?

EDIT: FYI, the Unichip gains on stock engines are pretty impressive as well

Your engine needs oversized exhaust valves, that is why the torque is dropping off so fast.

To keep the power rolling above 5500, you need a Schrick 288. Dual-pattern's seem to have a lot of mid-range for 3.0L M20's, but run out at 5500-6000...which means the larger 3.0L engine needs a hotter cam (288).

Thanks for the comments....larger exhaust valves are currently being ordered from IE.

That is also good to know about the 272/272 cam so it must be set correctly then. I realize a hotter cam would be better but I can't live with the kind of idle it produces nor can my wife (and she drives the car more than I). A pal of mine in Malaysia runs a 288 on a 3.0L stroker and the blurb...blurp lumpy idle is just not acceptable unfortunately.

What do you guys think about the exhaust pipes being larger between the headers & RD exhaust? Worthwhile or will the larger exhaust valves do the trick?

Do you have to do emissions testing?

If you already have aftermarket headers, you should do a straight exhaust with no catylitic converters and larger exhaust piping.

Yes we do have emissions but pre '92 cars do not have cat's, so mine doesn't....only a center muffler. Perhaps I wil go ahead with the larger pipes as well :)

Update: I was informed by Dastek S.A. (mfg's of Unichip) that the MAF swap can be done using the Unichip unit.....although they mentioned that on the cars which they have done this (not E30's) the gains were not substantial and not really worth the effort.
