oh snaps! shit just got serious!

that is awesome. an m30 is not too much bigger than an m20. if you never driven a car with an m30, dude, they are a real hoot to drive.

Small does not begin to describe the size of these cars.
I agree with the size limitations of this car. I would love to do an M60 (definitely fits better with the hot rod theme), but also believe it won't fit. However, I won't know for sure until I actually get the car home and take some measurements.

post a thread here of your build please. i will subscribe to it. i think an s14 would be appropriate as a minimum. what a fantastic project. man, if you could make an m60 fit, think how good this car would look with auburn or cord type side pipes sticking out the side of the engine cowl. perhaps making the car a convertible or chopping a couple inches out of the roof would be some other ideas for you. mz3 suspension? i think that if the guy is willing to sell the frame for a reasonable price, it would be a good idea to pick it up. it would make your fabrication so much easier even if you end up not using it.
I will make a thread on r3v, documenting the build, but want to make sure I put it in the right place since it's not e30 - any suggestions for what forum?

I also thought a chopped top would be cool, but I think the car is just too small to make that a possibility. These things are incredibly small and being 6'-1", I fear chopping means I would only be able to drive the car on and off a trailer.

The frame on the Dixi is kind of odd (at least to me), in that it narrows towards the front. My thought is to make a more classic straight frame that I can bolt modified front and rear subframes to (thinking e30 or 2002) or just make attachment points for the control arms and rear trailing arms.

Also, the seller decided he would like to keep the frame so he can build an Ihle using the Dixi frame and drivetrain.

I love the m30 in my non-stock e12 (see attached photo) but think it may be too long for this car unless I stretch the front end out.

      --------------

I'll be leaving on the 29th, to drive down there, visit and tour the BMW Zentrum, pick up the car and drive back. After that, I should have some more information about the car. The good news about how ridiculously small this car is, is that it fits in the bed of a pick-up truck - I don't even need a trailer. Thanks all for your input and ideas. Please keep them coming as I'm still just winging it until I get to see the car in person.

If the owner of Rusty Slammington can build a thread for his pickup without any previous experience, I'm sure you could rock one out, and make it fit an m60.

Here is a handbuilt frame thread for inspiration...

Ive been waiting on posting this until I was able to get a mockup. First off a little background. I was building the 32' pickup as my shop project....

I think a 2.5lt M10 with crazy lumpy cam and side drafts would be sweet as. Kinda keeping with the old school style I supose.

Considering this is not a common Hotrod build why use a common Hotrod engine style?

Why not under the Body section along with minor rust repair.

Just put the thread in the project forum. Lots of stuff in there that isn't e30 (including my build).

What about this to make the car go?

I'm probably dreaming, but how's the price look? I never seriously looked at s14's before so I have no idea what's reasonable. It seams like a good deal for a complete swap (if that's really what it is) and with Dinan's touch - when you compare it to a metric mechanic motor (M10, M42 or S14), but I know they are on the high end of the spectrum anyways.

It seems like the S14 is pretty rare these days, so I feel the chances of finding a good one, or one to rebuild and then acquire all the required components, is more difficult than it used to be. Am I correct with this thought or do they still pop up from time to time?

                  Thanks for your input,

                  - Micah
