10k in Mods

i'm revisiting this thread to remind the OP that modding almost gets you nothing in return for your cash outlay.

i really feel it would be smart to get a decent late-model truck with comfy seats, a/c and a good body/maintenance record for half your budget, then spend the leftover money wisely and use your e30 for a toy, something you use on days you want to feel good, not just to go to work all the time..

What a waste of money. I'm all for modding, but don't do it just to be doing it, buy the things you want and leave it at that because you won't be getting a lot of it back. There's a certain threshold where your money doesn't go as far, and 10k is way beyond that for an e30 325. IMO you'll be better off putting aside the money you don't need to spend for when you inevitably want another car.

If you must though, I'd refresh the body/interior, new upholstery and carpet on the inside, respray and all blemishes repaired on the outside, then probably an engine swap, and obviously suspension, at least you'll have a more valuable car in the end with that

Thanks everyone. I don't think there its another vehicle in my near future though. To me nothing has the style, soul or over all uniqueness an e30 brings. First I'm going to get it running amazing then work on the suspension and if I have change I'll probably just save it our paint it.

i would go one of either two ways. depending on the condition of your present e30. if your car is uber clean with top shelf suspension, 10 of 10 interior, great paint etc. in other words, if it's in great shape cosmetically with an almost new suspension. i would drop the money on the following.

#1. metric mechanic engine and drive train. although to do it right will cost more than 10,000. you'll get the engine for that. you will have a super clean e30 with more balls than you'll ever need, a warenty, and be the envy of the entire e30 world.

#2. if your car is just so/so, dump the money into a full stock restoreation. do your self a, right off the showroom floor e30. right down to the 195/65/r14's

Sorry man just trying to pass on some hard earned/learned wisdom about this industry to a younger guy. Still your nothing special to them, there are tens of thousands of guys like you with a CDL and little to no oil patch experience or skills looking to get hired on to be a warm body in a seat, Running around in WY, ND, MT, CO etc.......

If your gonna put money into that thing, then reliability and maintenance items 1st, then suspension/brakes/wheels-tires/power/appearance in that order.

Acquire 86-95 toyota pickup. then put this on it - http://www.chaosfab.com/95200.php - then when guys at work laugh at your little truck take them on a ride that involves flying through the air. then enjoy the STFU'ing that occurs. plus your still way under 10g :D

Well with my CDL and working for a family owned company I'm not too concerned with layoffs considering I'm even going back to school next spring with money I already saved, money's not an issue, I've had money for a long time prior I mostly am curious as to what other peoples suggestions would be as where to begin with mods If I can make my car my way with 500 dollars then all the better. Thanks for the life lesson though I've been here and I have seen the rise and fall of the oil fields a couple times. Farbin Kaiber where is your shop I might need some assistance here soon lol I have friends in Pocatello and Preston.

Well if money isn't a current or future concern, I'd still buy a truck and not worry about the horrible economy. You WILL be the laughing stock of your co-workers trying to make it to work everyday in a vert, especially if you dump a further $10k into suspension mods, rims and shiny paint.
