Fed up, keep or sell my E30..

Well it's been 3 months and $3,000 later of dumping money in my 325e to bring her back to life.

Long story short, the car had sat in this kid's backyard for 12+ years ever since the original owner had signed the title over to the kid's dad (mechanic for the car) after the car started giving the owner the usual running rich problems b/c of unchanged sensors. The owner signed it as a salvage like a moron thinking it wrecked or something.

When I bought the car from the kid, I found out too late and tried just checking the other box on the salvage section of the title and explaining at the DMW that the car was not hit (yes, I tried to slip a fast one), but I knew it was a lost cause.

So now I'm going through the salvage program and have to wait another 1-3 months just to get it inspected for a clean title when the freaking thing was never hit. I'm forced to go through all of this just to get a new title, but I'm really just eff'n fed up and about to just sell the car whenever I get the new title.

Would you guys keep it after all that?

Picture of her in all her eta goodness.

Nothing is wrong with the car, owner signed it over as a salvage on the title when the car was never hit.

So, what are you going to do? Sell it at a major loss?

Even if you do, the next car you buy may be equally if not more questionable. At least you know what you've got. Keep it for sure - it will be much cheaper than buying something else.

EDIT: I wasted my 9,000th post on this?

Good point, I feel like pretty much in a hole now plus I'm a broke college kid on top of that. I guess I'm just looking for a good reason to keep it. :(

Don't act like you understand. It's frustrating. The guy has a car that he's done a ton of work on and he still can't drive it and/or get it titled. Everyone gets frustrated with old cars - especially when you first get them and have to sift through all of the issues.

                  This.

The car gave me problems back to back and now this happens? I guess I'll just see how the whole salvage thing goes. At this point I could care less about taking a loss on all my work because of this. Don't get me wrong, I love the car, but a guy can only take so much.

                    I'm kind of with Vivek?

You have a working car that you have put a lot of work into, it looks pretty clean from the pictures. I mean obviously having a salvage title is not helpful when trying to sell the car, but why don't you keep it? I mean did you get the car to flip it?

I hear ya, I know I'm sounding a bit stubborn, but it's just been a huge headache with the car so far. I'll just wait to see how everything falls out. I'm hoping that when the car gets inspected by the salvage people, they'll see it was all just a misunderstanding with the title being put as slavage when the car is perfectly fine.

You guys think it will get some sort of rebuilt title or salvage title on it's record?

Keep it. It seems to be clean and you havent had a chance to do any fun stuff to it. I know how you feel about the mess with the title though, took me 3 months to get the title sorted out on my jeep and it wasnt even a salvage.

Your logic gives me brain pains. The title has nothing to do with the car? Obviously it does - otherwise the OP wouldn't be considering selling his car. Additionally, the guy just invested a lot of money into a car that he later found out had a salvage title. All problems - all frustrating.

Coming from the guy selling a vert top with no window for 1/3 the price of a new one...."Hey it's an old top. What do you expect?"

Have you ever sold anything? Ever?

Also, the buyer will run into the same title issues. Explaining doesn't really accomplish anything.

Tell me how a piece of paper has to do with how mechanically sound a car is. I thought so. Not to mention he implied he'd only sell the car after he got the title sorted out, which is his main/only problem with the car.
First of all, he doesn't seem confident that he will get a clear title. You falsely understood that from the beginning. Also, what do you think a title is - theoretical? No, it's tangible - and it is considered by most to be a representation of the car. Example - a destroyed title means the car has been destroyed. A salvage title means that it's been salvaged. So yes - it is physical. Mechanical? Perhaps not. But the op isn't having mechanical problems - he's having title problems. So, you may have "thought so" - but your thoughts were inherently incorrect.

I've sold a TON of stuff. Phones, computers, bikes, a car...total bought and sold by me personally is like 10-12k. Pretty damn good for a 15 year old.
How did you pay for all of those things? The point I'm making is that you don't seem to understand value. Implying to the OP that a salvage title won't drive down the selling price of his car is proof positive of that. So no, it's not impressive for a 15 year old to have spent family money on stuff. My cats have accomplished roughly the same by way of eating the food that I provided and later shitting it out.
