The holiday season is coming and I plan on asking the fiance for a new radar detector. I find myself commuting very much these days and want to avoid a costly ticket.

I am torn between two: The Valentine 1, Passport 8500.

Please share expierences, ideas and opinions. Are there any other candidates out there???

The Valentine 1

The people that suggest Passport have never used Valentines. Valentine users never go with anything else ever again.
It should not even be up for debate. If you (or the person buying it as a gift) has the $400, get the Valentine. If $400 is too much, then wait til you have more money and then buy it.

V1 - I always drive 2 cars behind a V1 when I go on a long drive with buddies. Thanks James!!! Made it all the way to Eugene with spurts of 120mph and had all of 5 of us pass a cop with no tickets.

I have a Passport 8500 x50. I love it.

I'd rather have a V1.

i have had the v1 for about a year and half and it makes me happy

I know two BMW-folk who have V1s in their cars....both swear by them. And from everything I have read/heard, the Valentine is the radar to get....hands down. If you think its expensive, tally up the cost of a speeding ticket and increased insurance for 3 years (unless you qualify for traffic school). The V1 suddenly looks like a bargain.
