For as long as my memories stretch back I can remember cars. Cars after cars after cars. I don't remember where I was or why I was there, but yet cars.
As a youngin I started early, I caught the gasoline gene my dad always said, it derived from back when my grandfather, my dads dad, joined the Rocky Mountain Chapter BMW Car Club of America (RMCBMWCCA for short). I was the question box since day 1. I couldn't hold back my questions, it was almost as I was meant to test the knowledge of my father on cars. I cannot recall the year it happened, yet my dad had a very nice roundie 2002 (I put in a picture somewhere) that he did a amazing job of bringing back to life and it got hit by a woman tragically later and was totaled. The only memory I have of this car is doing doughnuts in the back parking lot of the local kingsoopers while snowing.
Anyways within a year he was so heart broken from his 2002 being totaled and he half heartily found a 1988 E30 325ix diamantshwartz and bought it. The car has been with us for about 10 years now, and yet again do I have many more memories that cannot be put in words. I was attached to this car and still am. (I will add a picture of the E30 also) This car is what took me to millions of places, what I learned to drive stick on, the car I got my first double clutch rev match down shift on, and how I learned to change oil, tires, brakes, etc. I will post a picture that has a line of bmw's on a spring drive to Bill Youngs BMW collection, I was taking pictures out of the sunroof.
About 6 months ago my brother crashed the IX into a jersey rail coming off the highway, and banged it up pretty good. It is very depressing to look at because before that the car has never been in an accident. I drive the car mostly because I hate my moms AUTOMATIC SUV dumb thing. The car still drives very well minus the squeeks and rattles and problems, a couple weeks ago my good friends dad named him Max, I thought it was appropriate because of the German name Maximilian. I do have a picture of Max and my friends car we call Keisha for reasons I cannot explain.
But the origin of me writing my story is that a couple years ago I was shared a story by my dad that there was a common custom that went through the BMW owners of America, that as you pass another BMW you simply flash your brights and they flash back or wave back and of course you must be in a BMW, almost as a tip of your hat, or a nod of your head. This has not worked for me on many occasions, but today I did do this in Max and a red E30 did wave back.
I started to think that if all BMW owners have their own story of why they have their BMW, then I would start to think there has to be some dignity in owning one. I want whoever that reads this and does have a BMW to start this tradition yet again. Even if it is from E30 owner to E30 owner, that is a start. Don't hesitate and flash your brights from owner to owner and maybe you'll strike gold as I did. Personally I am in pursuit of a Later model 325is E30 so if you have one and want to sell it in Colorado PM me:razz: If you have any suggestions on this please add for yourself!!sigpic
