how hard is an auto to 5 speed swap in an E34? my friend has a 5 speed parts car and an auto 525i driver. ive been bugging him to do the swap but he thinks its too hard

I'd love to take the time/challenge to do it myself, however its my DD and I can't have it not running for a week or more while I figure out what I'm doing.

I would assume a shop would have it for at least a week as well, if not more.

Well its much easier for me to work out borrowing/renting a car for a week then getting a car till I get around to learning/finding time/making sure its right, and I figure a shop will know what they are doing so it will take them a 1/4 of the time with more time to dedicate then I do

Yes, although E34 5 speed swaps are more of a pain than E30s.
