I would have demanded some Style 5's to stay quiet haha. Could have been a major legal nightmare for this guy if you pressed charges for a hit and run. I'm surprised his wife fessed up, he knew he hit you-then decided to flea.

Side thought- if this was at night I'd bet he was drunk, didn't want to risk a DUI so he left. Then days later while sober/free and clear he fessed up.

Yeah, but he could be more of a dick about it, and we all know usually the dick wins out and the victim gets shafted.

Made out good it looks like; damage, dings and rust is getting repaired. Why take him for everything he's got? Not directed at OP.

U take the money and get it done where/when/how u want it. If u take it to his shop, chances r he knows them. My vert got damaged by a shop, I agreed to let them take care of it. Long story short....it was a nightmare and the work was subpar. They didn't fix the damage just the paint so I made them redo it how I wanted it done....they finally did. I got a 1 year warranty from them but 1month later they were gone from the location. I've been in a few situations where I trusted the other party to make good...and got burned. Always take the money. We generally have higher standards than most non enthusiasts. The bodyshop sees its an old car and just treats it as such.

barry, i felt pretty comfortable with the shop. it's a little bit hood, but i saw a classic 190sl they had just finished and it looked great. he offered lifetime warranty on the paint and to not accept money until it was up to my expectations.

the guy that backed into me does know the owner, but by taking that shop offer i'm going to get a lot of other things taken care of as well.

edit: i'll admit i'm very nervous/anxious about picking it up next week...

drove by the shop tonight to check the progress and they haven't touched the car yet. no way it'll cure properly in a day if they still expect to be done by tuesday....

Paint takes like a month to cure before you should sand/polish/wax it.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

That's why the shop has insurance. Don't hesitate to involve the police at this point. You, he, and his wife know that he hit and run, i'm assuming the shop owner and all of your friends know this as well.
