I like the simpleness of the Isuzu over the montero. The montero is pretty awesome though.

        Im dating myself now...

Ive been in several of these things. A buddy of mine bought one brand new 5spd, 4x4, in 1991 fully loaded with, out of the box iirc, with 31s. We tore that thing up! I did overheat one when too much mud was in the rad but, it wasnt mine. It drove nice but so do most things new.

another bud traded in his 87 I for a 92 II and although very familiar, it was a huge step in comfort and power. I didnt feel like it was going to tip over...as easy.

Come to think of it, I dont remember the last time I saw one of the road. Might be sign. :)

The 3l Montero likes to let the harmonic dampner chew the nose off the crank-
but it's a Caravan engine, so you can get a crank anywhere. It's just time.
I've owned 2 of 'em. The heads are small, the idle control system is voodoo...
            but they're decent.

I loved the 2dr 3L- enough motor, not too much truck- and yes, the thing is a full- frame tank. I towed the 2002 racecar all over the state with it. Only had one
of these, and wish I still had it. DID have rear driveshaft issues, though.

I thought the square- headlight 2- door 'short' Trooper II was pretty cool-
the full length was undermotored. Had one of those. Did at least 2 valve jobs....

The 4- cyl Mitsu had a junk transmission. Had one of those. Did the trans twice.

I like 'em both, if you're in the 'I like boxes' camp. They're getting old enough that they're
pretty uncommon. They are very slow in modern traffic.

Currently, I have an '86 Land Cruiser that makes the Troop/teros look space- age underneath.
But it's really a tractor with 4 doors and a tailgate.

            t
now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Had 89 trooper and 92 rodeo.. Loved the trooper lived in arizona at the time and beat the shit out of it in the desert. Went anywhere I wanted it too. Had the 92 rodeo for about 11years with minimal issues. Isuzu body with honda guts essentially. Would kill for a diesel trooper. With anything though you have lemons and gems.

I've owned two of the newer troopers. A 96 and a 99. The 99 was terrible. Do not buy the ones with the 3.5L engine (98+). They burnt oil for no reason!

My 96 with the 3.2L had 290k miles when I sold it. Original engine and tranny. That car was a tank!

I grew up with both a trooper and a montero.

We had an 88 Trooper II and a 91 Montero when I was a kid. I liked the Trooper better ;) Maybe it was the options or something but the Montero we had wasn't fully equipped, it had 4x4 and everything but the upholstery and interior felt cheap.

I liked the Yaw and Tilt gauges that were optional on Monteros.. not very useful but looked cool.. kind of like the OBC's.. not very useful, but they look cool.

I think about getting a Trooper every once in a while but can't justify it.

                    I say

I'm withholding pictures of mine since until I get new tires and/or the lift done.
