Wrecked my 4 day old 318is, rust free car from california, the best E30 I've ever driven.

Also, plowing into a tree headfirst is generally a sign of weakness/panic. When you are hauling ass the side or rear of the machine usually proceed you. Balls swinging, of course.

The only ways I could have prevented this was if I had a passenger reading the GPS..., we hit tail of the dragon and other twisty roads without a dry run simply by having the passenger read what the next corner would entail, second being a dry run. I did my best to stop it so I'm not complaining about my driving skills. If I did a dry run it would have been sketchy as well, when they meant 15 on the turn, it surely meant TEN. Something locals of tail of the dragon told us when we drove through it, to follow the speed limit on the hairpins haha. And the cops indeed told me that as far as speed limits go, the signs should be updated as they don't reflect the two-in-one sweeper-hairpin style turn it is. I'm glad I was ahead and my follower friend heard the collision or else it would have been a REALLY bad night.

And as far as everything humor wise, I'm cool with it, the car died in style, we were pushing through those twisties for a good 30mins, it didn't get killed by a Suburban, or a drifting on a public road into a family of 5, it died when I was having the most fun with it, away from everyone, and I walked away, and the car still drives. I did everything I could to stop it because it would have ended up much worse :)

Upon pulling the hood the strut tower is moved a half inch back, bumper shock is basically non existent...the car could live another day but it wouldn't be worth it. Runs and drives still surprisingly.

What do the insurance weenies say? I'd say if they'll total it but put it on your record as a "driver error" claim (the most likely), then fuck it, salvage, part, etc. But if somehow you can say you... "swerved to miss a bunny" (or whatever) and it won't negatively impact your record... then your options are wide open...

chances are, with a police report having been filed, you're up sheet creek and it will be a "driver error" claim with the insurance, which will drive your premiums up, obvi. Dunno man.
