I agree that this is very sad, but we are all to blame. We are too cool, we are having too much fun, and any non-e30 owner that is not jealous, is just stupid or they want an autopilot car. Lately, I've been dreaming of accumulating a few more just so I am assured of a lifetime supply. But I am starting to see some nice e28s.

You would think a $2k car would have some cheap ass mods to have fun with, but thats not and really hasnt ever been the case if you want nice parts. Now with the market being more around the $4-5K range, spending $10k on mods doesnt seem as horrible.

Im guessing most of you guys crying about high prices for e30's are youngins with no real mod budget. once you start getting close to $40k on your e30, come talk to me.
    So fucking true.

Its simple, demand goes up and so do prices. It sucks because its like your favorite band, or rapper, who you and a few only know about and then they blow up and are now being played in your popular radio station. It kinda loses its cache when everyone knows about it. Thats what i feel is happening with e30s. Lets face it, most new cars today are complicated and fugly!

    Mines 3k, very fair no?

IMO I don't think a plastic bumper e30 needing all new suspension bushings and ignition items with rust is worth 4-6k just because the valve cover is painted. That seems to be the trend here though. A 4-6k e30 should not need anything done to it. I'm not talking swap cars though.

For me, some of the best parts of driving an E30 was the hilarity that came with owning a cheap, old, german car. I liked being part of a culture that included true seasoned enthusiasts as well as moronic 16 year old kids with three springs cut out of their suspension for us to laugh at. Once these start becoming $6k+ cars there will be less people using fish tanks as heater cores. Gone will be threads on going in to thrift stores and looking for money in donated clothes. It won't be nearly as funny when someone pulls an R3V because instead of wrecking your $1500 E30 you just ruined a ride you just paid $7.5k for.

I guess I just feel like by virtue of these cars going up in price, we're all either going to have to grow-up and/or be surrounded by grown-ups. I am a reasonably successful 27 year old professional, but my E30 was my escape to feel like a poor college student again. It was my time machine. Now, instead of being the moron on a good salary in my office who confuses everyone by driving a $2000 twenty-one year old car, I'll just be the moron who paid M3 money for it.
Everything about this post is on the money.

I want to always drive an E30. I'll probably get something slightly more reasonable, but it just feels familiar, and is/was a cheap old German car.

Just dropped $4500 for a 325is in need of minor work. Mind you, this is Canada, so there's a premium on anything that isn't rusted to shit, but in retrospect, and seeing the work the car needs, I wish I had shopped around a little more.

SkiFree nailed it, these prices are getting to be a reality. On the bright side, those of us who plan to hold onto E30s for a while will get to watch their value go up... even though I really doubt any of us is buying E30s as an investment.

Miata is more fun than an e30.

    DEAL WITH IT.

    Its also cheaper.

No one wants 14k for an NA miata with hellafresh rimz.

You can get a 1.6 for 1k all day long.
