Almost gave up my iX about 2 years ago as the list of repairs was daunting. In that time I've completely redid the suspension, rebuilt the engine and transmission and cleaned up the bay. Also, new tires, drive line components, exhaust, cluster, brake components, clutch, ssk, etc, etc. Now, I would never consider selling it.
Can you sell your e30?

I often wonder what will happen to my e30 when I die. I will only part with it if its been totaled. Congrats for being in the black. I'm balls deep in the red (with plans to go deeper), but I've learned it doesn't matter. I'm probably somewhere near $17k spent on car that might not be worth 10 on its best day in under a year of ownership. Even if I had 100k to blow on a car I can't think of 1 I'd take over an e30. Dead serious. The good thing is one day its value will equal what I've spent on it.I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

Low key with you on that
I'm young and I was a car enthusiast before an e30 owner.
Translation: so many more cars out there for me to drive; every other enthusiast will tell you the same about their car being irreplaceable. Don't want to be that guy stuck in 1 make and model for the rest of his lifeBronzit 4-door Swap Drifting somewhere

My first E30 sold for $200 and I regret that(rust free, poorly running 318i early model)
Second E30 (silver 4dr early model, cardinal interior, weaves, MT1 wheel, LSD, map light, rust free, cosmo coils, billy sports, relatively clean) sold to get a 2dr and completely regret selling it after the new owner wrecked it, hammered the fender back out, blacked out the tails, spray painted diving boards, bumper trim, valance and lip silver, put disgusting seat covers on...
I've decided now that any E30 I decide to sell will go to a true enthusiast
My current I will probably keep for a very long time with me being the second owner and all

Thats another thing...its never done. Its a good and a bad thing i guess.
Ive get this feeling from time to time. I almost went for a Cooper S that had everything I wanted but I would, again, part with one. The car that fancys me and always has is a late model E46 non M. Id doesnt help that I have a project car in my garage too...the e36 cabrio with some RSII with it. I think there is some unwritten rule that if a member sells ones e30 for an e36, a ban stick may fly.
Not to mention that I really wanted pwagons 2002. It is exacty what I have been wanting for a vintage car...other than the rust and no sunfoof. Getting that would mean selling both of mine because I sill would need a daily.
I mean a realistic price...the price that you think it is worth if you were to sell it. Unrealistic $20K, then we all may be swayed to have an open spot on our driveway.
I couldnt even sell it when I returned it to stock 3 years ago. Im in trouble. :(The longer you have it the harder it is to get rid of, and the more you work on it the harder it is to get rid of. I sold my early 318i without a second thought since it was bought as a temporary beater anyway. I don't see myself getting rid of the 318is that I put a new engine in anytime soon though.
Even though I do have 2 e30s, they are 2 very different cars. It would be easier if there was some overlap.I sold my vert 4 years ago and for the last 4 years I've wished I didn't sell it and you'll do the same. Now if I had two, I don't think I'd have a problem selling one of them.
I've had a honda, 2 big trucks, and a ford fusion (company car) and NOTHING is as fun as the e30. If you sell you'll quickly find out that you still spend the same amount of money...on dumb shit now, and when you get back into an e30 you have to start ALL over again.
Through the years of looking at the FS thread, there are some great buys out there...stock to swapped.Comment

Im with you on this one and I wish I was that guy. If I could, I would just moth-ball the coupe and get something else. Its one of the reasons why I flip cars, so I can have fun with them and move on to the next.Comment

Well I think half the battle of getting over a car is having another in mind. In your case you said you might need to sell both to cover the cost of one option. In those cases I would say to save up to afford them or just go with the option that allows room for both.
Cliche but in the end it's all about how you feel about the car; I personally could deal with the fact that there is a possibility to buy back your baby, should the new vehicle not amount to your expectations.

Thanks nick. Having a backup e30 and getting something newer would ease the pain. One variable about the coupe is I do take some pride knowing that I have done all the work on it myself (on occasion a buddy or two).
I also like no car payments although the parts bill some of those months constitute a major one. :)Comment
