Best Roof Rack for an E30

Mine stays tight... There's enough thread on the other side to twist the nut thingy down and make it tight against the tray.

u kno what i never tried tying it down all the way. Gonna give it a whirl when i get home tonight. The threads on my rods stop 1/3 of the way.....maybe i have a different tray?

All about the thule on thule for bikes. These are my iXes. I have since sold both and regret both decisions, especially the alpine one.



I'm too nervous to put the thule on the M3 with a very costly fresh respray.

I love my Yakima Rack, Has taken mine and a friends Kona DH bikes on a 1400 mile trip with zero problems. I scored mine for a serious steal, $60 for bars with caps and 4 towers with 6 locks and keys, No accessories, but with the savings I snagged 2 Yakima High Rollers off Craigslist aswell.

I was going to get a set of racks for my M3 but I don't want to risk the paint, and I don't entirely trust the rain gutters (they seem a little loose to me.) I certainly don't trust my rather expensive custom frame(s) on a rack that I don't entirely trust either. (The cost of fixing the car, the rack and the loss of the uninsured one off bike makes the thought rather unattractive.) I just pull the rear seat out, wrap the bike in a sheet and carefully set it where the rear seat would go.

That 32" does look good, but I'm wondering how a 44" would look, anyone have pictures?

I got my Yakima setup on and it's wonderful. Found 58" bars (cut them down to about 44"), A1 towers, and locks all for 100$, not bad. Got the Copperhead bike rack and it works perfectly. Got it all just in time for the semester. Now I just want the fairing.

Will, the Yakima rack system is extremely solid, has rubber protection and has little chance of damaging car or bike. The greatest effect I've seen is that is displaces the weather stripping a bit.

44" is too big, imo. I believe 38" is the recommended size for functionality's sake.

I got to drive the for the first time with the roof rack, that thing is loud! I'm getting the fairing today and re adjust the rack. Looking at the pics is sitting too far back.

It doesn't clamp to the chrome trim. It clamps to the metal "lip" that is welded to the car.
