    The most stressed part is where the bars meat the risers.

    Thule appears to be stamped steal. Yakima is thick extruded aluminum.

                Mine is like the second one, latest generation with the non removable ends removed. Got her for free and really like the look :) also not upside down.

                              I think this guy is called "gutter grabber" and has been long discontinued. I actually cut each leg down an inch to get a lower profile.
