I suspect your "buyer" is the Nigerian Finance Minister.

That said. The email is still fishy.
Did you see the car first? I can understand if you felt comfortable enough to whoop out your phone and transfer the money via paypal right there. There are certain desirable cars where the price is so good, you just gotta buy it without seeing it in person but even then that's an awfully risky move. This sounds like a cold call or cold email. I am helping a friend sell a car on craigslist so I am weeding through the BS right now. I get emails like this all the time. Who pays asking price, in full to someone online without ever seeing the car??? of course, it's always someone else who will just pick up the car later. The car I am selling is an old Voyager mini-van.

Who could love a Voyager enough to think anyone would want to scam them out of it ?

This is clearly a scam. The language screams scam. However, if you meet with an actual person, make sure they exist and investigate the situation, PayPal shouldn't be an issue. Someone may just want to put the purchase on their credit card via PayPal.

I'm not saying that using PayPal is indicative of a scam, I use PayPal for a lot of high dollar items... I'm just saying that if they only want to do the transaction via the internet and don't want to meet in person, it's a scam. They could use PayPal or whatever means that is agreed upon, but not wanting to come out from behind the computer is a big flag...

I definitely call this a scam, mainly cause theyre "out of town". Im pretty sure every scammer is out of town. Why not wait to get back in town to PHYSICALLY see the car? I think that would be the smarter thing to do. or at least thats what i would do.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

"Okay i just wanted to make sure nothing is been left out.I will be buying this for the price you have listed it for.Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. In the meantime, can you send me more pictures (if available)? "

seems like a real person but never dealt with/heard of anyone paying for a car through Paypal? reeks of a scam by the language used...

Not necessarily, they could put it on a credit card via Paypal. But I agree, when dealing with CL if it smells like a scam it probably is.

Tell them to call you, and maybe offer to take a deposit via paypal to hold the car until they are back in town. I bet you never hear from him again.

                        response email i got....

"I would have love to come up with cash but i can't due to the nature of my job. The only means of payment here is paypal, i would have also love to send through western union but i don't have my credit card here to send money online, i only have access to my paypal account, if you don't have a paypal account It is easy to get an account, just go to www.paypal.com , all they need from you is a valid bank account it takes less than 3-4min to register, its reliable and secure to send and receive money online. Please bear with me as i am willing to buy. Thanks for your understanding"

i dont think this is a special case buyer 98% sure scammer after this one
