New to e30s and about to go see a 325ix from craigslist. Need some advice..

I've driven honda's all my life so I'm not really familiar with BMW's. I'm going to look at the car tomorrow and really don't know much about their value/ pitfalls.

This is the Ad for the car:

I've already been checking out this site

for a checklist of the car.

I talked to the seller and he says theres a small amount of rust on the passenger side rocker panel and the rear quarter panel has "been crunched a little" (not sure if those are old pic's or if the damage is minimal)

He also said the engine has been fully rebuilt with new cams water pump thermostat etc and that the suspension has been fully redone.

Also, I don't really know any mechanics so I was thinking about taking it to the BMW dealership to run through it and let me know what they think. Good idea???

Let me know what you guys think and any advice is greatly appreciated guys!
    thanks

Ask him when the the timing belt was last done. If he doesn't know. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. If he does know and it has been over 50,000 miles DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. I bought mine only a few weeks ago and haven't taken it to a dealer ship. If he will deduct the price for the inspection from the car price then go for it.

Would love to see that stack of receipts because I can't imagine where the money went.... must have been those seats and harnesses.

Judging from the owner's penchant for Maaco paint jobs and JVC LCD screens, I would also bet the transfer case / front splines / front diff / all of the above aren't working.

            engine is worked
            lol

Looks like a rolling advertisement for BMP. Pretty gauges in the center console, hold on while I look at the gauges, ahhhh R3V'ed.

Slightly farther away but half the cost.

This one is cheap but needs work.

That is a real eye sore. I am curious about the "complete restoration" since the body and interior have not been restored, just modified for the worse and the engine has been "worked". If you get into e30s, someday you'll laugh at having contemplated this one.

If you have not driven RWD e30s, it will be harder for you to notice but the iX should feel more planted if the front wheels are getting power as they should. If you can do a jack test, do one. If not, ask him exactly what maintenance he has done. If he doesn't mention both lubing the front drive shaft spline and changing the timing belt, walk. For $5k, you can get a much cleaner e30 and I would not start with the iX unless you have always wanted one.

look for a stock one, not somebody's hack job project. especially on an ix, where maintenance is more important than ever.

the amount of clean stock ix's must be seriously dwindling, I see a lot of parts cars and really badly modified ones but only a clean stock one once in a blue moon..

I learned that when buying an E30 patience is key. Be patient... and run away from this one. For 5k you can get a beautiful, unmodified, unmolested E30 with original paint. Looks like these idiots couldn't find the screws to remove the door handles before the respray. Keep searching.

The only way he has $20,000 in receipts is if he bought it in like 1994, and its the original sales receipt...

Its crap... Worse, its modded crap with a high price...

Don't waste the gas to even go see it

When you see too many non-OEM gauges inside the car...run.
