    Hagerty collector/modified car insurance. Proof of modifications, had to be garage kept and under a certain miles per year etc. Insured for $10k once the paint was finished. 4 base and 3 clear coats of PPG was far from cheap.

          Not an E30, but I had a very clean and modified Mk2 GTI rear-ended and totaled last year. I had $6k in receipts for the last 3 years and the insurance company flat out refused to even look at a receipt more than one year old! I fought like mad and rejected 3 offers. I still got just $2k for the whole thing and then bought it back for $350.
