it really isn't that much heavier... it's only like an extra 50lbs in the front end..... anybody notice a difference with a JC chip? or any noticeable difference from any chip for that matter?

And only 15lbs heavier than the m50/us s50.

I had a 335i and it was badass it was so much faster than a e30 with a m50. That motor is a beast but still will pick the front wheels off the ground!

hahahaha, i LOVE to hear stuff like that!! i'm doin an m30 conversion in mar/apr and i just wanna know if it's gonna be worth it.. bc after hearing things like that, i can't wait to start.. it really is that much faster huh?

HA! - a m30 in will NOT "lift the front wheels" - that is stupid talk...(ha you guys - very funny)

I can only speak from experience - I had a decent m20 - It was high milage (230k) with a new head. Compression was good. And would could pull very nice in 1'st and 2'nd gear...the m20 is fun to rev. A good motor all in all.

If you have ever drove a stock e28 with a m30 - you will never be impressed with a m30 motor. (or e24, e32, for that matter ...) the cars are just too heavy. They feel like my e21 I had - you CAN make it get out of it's own way, but you have to work at it. A m20 e30 will blow the doors off of it. The big cars are just seem so HUGE....Heavy....

But you take that same motor(m30) and put it in a MUCH lighter car like a e30 (keep in mind it was NEVER ment to be there) and you have a fun ass car. I can't count the times I start off from a dead stop and just drive away from everyone at a stoplight at 1/2 on the gas - in second gear! My bigest worry in driving is getting attention of our local cops...The thing just goes...1st, 2nd, you can't help it - I chirp in front of cops all day long - and just hope I don't get busted(illegal to do in CA)

My swap went all out as far as the swap was conserned. I used a lot of e30 m3 parts (drive shaft, tranny, ect) You can cut so many corners - using a older motor, eta drivesaft parts, mounts from germany, Ask ely, he knows.

Yea, my around town gas milage is not the best (say 18MPG) - but if you meet me at a stoplight - you better have a a turbo on you m20.

Faster? - well look at stock m30 dnyo numbers - and I know it's faster then a e30m3 and a e36m3...the only thing in town I can't beat is a e46 m3....[edited for fairness - or a modded e36m3 with a SC - or a built up e30m3 with a 2.5 evo motor - so stop PMing me]

The TQ is unreal. Granted - if you do a nice m20 build up like Jordan - you might have a good TQ too. Jordans TQ curve impressed me for a m20. Really did! -
M50 have nothing on m30's. And the only s50 I would what would be Stu mc's dad built motor...

I can't wait till april to do this damn conversion already... i hate the cold weather up here in NY, really puts a damper.... how much horsepower you think you have? any what hop-ups do you have in it? i plan on putting headers/custom exhaust, chip, intake, all that good stuff......


anything that you came across on the conversion that was unexpected?
what motor did you use and what is your estimated hp? and do you have a cat??

Also - the m30b35 was used till 1989(?). It's not exactly an older motor considering e30's went till 1991.

I was talking about the fact that the M30 was designed in the early 60's. Its old ass technology. M30 first debuted in the US market in the form of the 2800CS in 1968 or 1969 (can't remember)
