The guy I talked to at the SCCA event said he was expecting more from it. But was overall happy with the performance for daily use. He said he mostly bought it for styling etc. I really think they are a handsome car, RWD and new to the aftermarket. It is refreshing/

I know there will be amazing high HP builds, suspension setups etc.

My best friend bought one recently. The car has an amazingly well balanced chassis, great steering feel, and a damned near perfect driver position. It's a true joy to drive. It's plenty quick for me, but the fastest cars I've owned have been my 91 535i and my 89 325is so I definitely don't have the best perspective when it comes to a fast car. A BRZ STi with 280 horsepower sounds awesome.

I think they are really boring looking, just like most new cars. But on the flip side, all the not boring cars are way too over the top and are hideous.

                  280 HP and 2700 lbs
                  Nice.
So it basically matches an S52-E30 in power and weight.

Still... it couldn't be more different than an e30 in looks... it's just another ugly looking new car.

I actually think the Scion FR-S looks better than the BRZ does. Unfortunately, Toyota probably isn't in much of a hurry to release a higher-horsepower version of that since it's an entry-level market. They only allow one or two interior choices, so I don't think a new engine/drivetrain/suspension setup fits their goals.

The same fanboys that drive the current ones.

That would be a VERY healthy S52 with the usual bolt-ons....

A bit of a bump from the dead, but I find the comparison between an FRS and a 24v E30 interesting. I'm liking the FRS but can't see it replacing my e30.

I'm graduating soon with a secure job in mechanical engineering and am in the position to replace my college car, an M52 E30. After a little research, I was psyched to go test drive an FRS. Same power to weight as my e30, the reliability of a Toyota, and I even dig the styling. So, I went to two dealerships only to be told they absolutely needed a $500 deposit to drive the ($25k) car. No warranted insults to the absurdity of this rule would cause them to budge. They explained this was due to the demand and rarity of the FRS. Even though this a temporary issue, I can't help but weigh the cost vs benefits of the FRS. We all know the stats.

I can't imagine it being $20k more fun than a 24v e30. I wasn't one bit regretful leaving in my e30. I park where I want, beat it without a second thought, pay nothing in insurance and the list goes on. The more I thought about it, the FRS is nice but I'm damn happy with my e30.

                                So much hate.

Oh no, a car company is actually building a car that is similar to what enthusiasts want. Oh the horror.
