actually the death of the manual has a lot to do with the EPA. the auto manufacturers know how to skew the test results by carefully programmed auto shift modes. and also because people don't want to be bothered to actually learn to drive.

I think the car is really cool, just based on the RWD/manual/front engine platform. How long until even BMWs only come in AWD or FWD with slushboxes? we're mostly there now, BMW really doesn't want to build M cars with manuals any more.

I don't think I'd ever own one though, too small for me. but I agree, why all the hate? it's basically the closest thing to an E30 made today.

On topic though. I think the FRS/BRZ/GT86 is one of few good cars that have been released in the last ten years and this model should be even better. Nothing to complain about but I don't see how it would be any better than a swapped E30.

Discussing dropping $25k to void and otherwise negate the benefits of buying a new car is a bit absurd.

I've had a chance to sit in a BRZ briefly. Seating position and ergonomics are very nice. Doesn't have the 'greenhouse' effect like the E30 so rearward visibility isn't as good. It sort of reminds me of my Porsche 924 from years ago.

In reading the various articles and videos published about this car and the FRS, the focus seems to be more on the driving experience it delivers. A lot of bench racers have talked about how, based on reading specs alone, its just not good enough. I bet the base car would be a blast....sure its not uber fast but the handling and feedback are its strong points, much like a mildly tuned (stock powered E30 325i). And that's what reviewers who have driven this car are saying. You can access all of the performance a lot of the time. Nowadays when you have a sports oriented car with 300+ BHP on tap, to unwind and get the most out of its performance you either run the risk of making some cops' day or wait until you get to an auto-x or track day event.

Accelerated performance is making 631hp hp at the moment. They are running e85 and a gt30/35r, oh yea on the stock ecu. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me. And the motor is still the same stock fa20 no headstuds, arp bolts nothing. Stock.

Both the FRS and BRZ would be hella fun cars. You know they can be modded out. I mean shit, the first e30's were m10's with boatloads of power... and by that i mean about as much power as a dingy. It would be stupid to think that these cars dont evolve over the next few years. And being they are toyota/subaru, there are going to be tons of affordable aftermarket parts.

If i felt like having a low'ish car payment for a sports car, I would seriously consider an FRS

i haven't had the opportunity to drive one yet so I'm receiving my judgement until then, the styling isn't my favorite but that largely due to the wheels, it does however look different than every other car on the road and i like that
