I think Tesla makes the EV vs. ICE debate irrelevant. No one should buy this car to feel like they're saving the environment or saving money on fuel. They should buy this car because it offers a better driving experience than any car in its class IMO.
I have driven the future and it is Tesla

I find that obnoxious as hell. I hate Electronic HVAC systems. Give me a knob or a slider.Mainly because it replaces knobs and switches and controls nearly everything in the car. The sound system is pretty cool too. The fade control is a top view interior picture of the car and you just drag a dot to where in the car you want the center of the sound to be. It also has a system where you can manually override the suspension ride height. It also has clarity as good as the IPad. I will say that the fact you can have a full website displayed while you drive could be a distraction if you used it for that.Comment

I have a few friends who have test driven it and they all came away very pleased with the experience. Yes it's expensive, but so is every single new technology in the universe. As development continues prices will eventually start coming down in the same way they did with ICE vehicles in the 1920s. The first automobiles were so prohibitively expensive that only the super-rich could afford them. So what did Henry Ford do? Find a revolutionary way to bring the mfg costs down so that everyone could afford one. It happened with cars, it happened with computers, it will happen again with EVs.
I'm just glad we have inventors and entrepreneurs like Elon Musk who are willing to risk so much and work so hard to develop things like this. If the world were full of "It won't work", "But I can't fill it in 5 minutes", "What I have now works fine", "It's just a bunch of hippie shit"-type personalities, we'd still be stuck in caves drawing pictures of fucking buffalo with charcoal.Comment

BINGO!
You have to be a real back woods nutjob Ted Kaczynski type to still be bitching and moaning about electric cars. The Tesla stands on its own as a car.
Sounds about right.

Yeah, I have, one of my bosses has one. I have driven it some, and I dont think I would tire of it that fast. And if you dont drive it like you stole ALL the time the economy is not that bad especially for 556 HPThe American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Arguing about equivalent class automobiles is rather pointless. If you're buying a car in this sector, you don't really care about ULTIMATE handling abilities. You want it to be quick, have good steering, and be reasonably well-balanced, which if you're paying 100K, is nearly guaranteed. 4300 lbs vs. 4700 lbs curb weight is not a big difference in the grand scheme of things. Neither car will be driven beyond 5/10ths on the road.
If you buy into the tech, then buy a Tesla. If you don't, well, buy an ICE car.

Eh, I wasn't always driving like I stole it and still drank gas like it was its job. It only impressed me by the amount of power (gobs) still available at highway speeds - but was mostly boring at anything that wouldn't get you arrested. Seats let you slide into the door and make you brace yourself in turns. A handful driving (like trying to conquer a gorilla), twitchy steering, and numb handling. It's a nice car but not an amazing experience. Vette or M5 = much better experience. You can't just cram a powerful engine into and put bug brakes on a car to make it amazing - it's not like a supercharged WS6 is going to be the ultimate drivers car, although some people may enjoy it.

While Tesla is cool, SpaceX is pure awesome. And investing in SolarCity while making EVs = genius. I like seeing Bezos bankroll Blue Origin as well. Sir Richard Branson is another who pursues what he wants (Galactic). Larry Page and Eric Schmidt are investing in mining asteroids. Paul Allen, Microsoft’s co-founder, has Stratolaunch.I'm just glad we have inventors and entrepreneurs like Elon Musk who are willing to risk so much and work so hard to develop things like this. They do make what thought impossible possible and not just sitting on their wealth but financing new technology that they want to see happen.Comment

If I could afford it, I would drive it. It looks great, sporty and luxurious, it's cutting-edge, the review seems positive on the driving front, and I for one think that electric power.. with its instant torque and low number of moving parts.. is the ideal drivetrain for an automobile. Only gripe is with the infotainment system.
Hopefully in 10 years when I find myself in a position of affording a car such as this there will be many more options even better than the Model S.Comment
