    e39 540iT M-sport: How rare?

Just wondering how rare e39 540i touring m-sport models are. I see them around with a 'sport' package but have only seen very very few with the 'M-sport' package.

540 is hard to find as it is, the touring is even harder. So my guess is the Msport would be on the rare side of that model.

Is it an auto or the 6spd?

Pretty sure all touring, in the US at least, are auto's.
Just found one of these cars on ebay and fell in love and was wondering how hard it would be to find another in a few years when I can actually afford another vehicle..

Didn't the touring 540i only come with an auto regardless of packages?

I honestly don't know, I test drove an e34 touring years ago. It had a factory 5spd in it. I don't see why the e39 touring would not have an option for a 6spd like the normal 540 has.

If the e34 touring did not come with a factory 5spd...someone must have swapped it. It was about 6 years old when I test drove it.

540 touring is only auto. The 540 sedans with the six speed are super hard to find. As far as I know only about 1200 or so were brought to the US.

540i/6 are a dime a dozen. Not at all hard to find. The M-sport (really just a 2003 540/6, they only made them in 2003 and all 540/6s made in 2003 are m-sports) are tough to find though, and typically pretty pricey.

Neither E34 nor E39 tourings ever came in stick OR M sport from the factory in the US.

we have two six speed 540's in my family. I wouldnt say they are too hard to find. The M sport however is in fact much harder to get your hands on.

That 1200 number you threw out was how many manual M-sports were made. 540/6 is a great car, I almost bought one. But they are not that rare.

There were NO manual E39 540 Touring's in the US.

                          There were only manual E39 525 and 528 Touring's in the US. 525 and 528, that's it. 6-cylinder's.

The only manual E39 540's in the US were sedans.

Did you read what I wrote?

                              Obviously not.

YES, there were E39 540 Touring's in the US... but NONE of them were brought to the US with a manual transmission.

NO E39 540 Touring's with manual transmissions, in the US.

                              M Sport 540 Touring's, yes.

ANY 540 Touring's with manual transmissions, no, not in the US.
