Salt water is just a waste of time to try and salvage. Everything with an opening to atmosphere needs to be cleaned and or replaced.

Id check your policy on your homeowners insurance. Im willing to bet this will be covered.

If not call Fema and see what they can do....only one way to find out and as of right now they are still giving out money to help with everything. You may not be able to claim the entire amount the car should be worth but you may receive at least some help.

We have lived through several of these storms, including Rita (mostly wind damanage) and Ike (catastrophic flooding). Ike flooded both my parents' rent houses, and all of my extended family's homes. The town looked very similar to these pictures, with everybody's stuff out in the yard. This was a town of around 7,000, along with Galveston, and other areas around the Houston region.

I know it's tough now, but in the end Ike turned out to be a blessing to a lot of people. Most everyone in town has recovered (although it's taken 3-4 years). Of course, insurance played a big part with the recovery, as did FEMA. We wish everyone in the areas affected by Sandy the best, this sucks!

some pics i took today of my friends house (including 2 of his cars and a brand new 2012 Audi S4).....he was about 10 blocks inland from the ocean, and he purposely parked his cars another 12 blocks inland from there...

I swear I've never seen such mass destruction like this nxt to 9/11. Driving into this area was like driving into a war zone. You see things on tv (media), and it makes you think that it affected only a small section of areas they report on. Not the case here. I drove within at least a 20 block radius, and everything was destroyed. Cars were lifted and thrown like toys, same with houses that were lifted completely from their foundations and moved. Here are some photos I snapped of my friends' house + their surrounding streets...which i felt bad about taking.

(So Vinnie, you're telling me this could've been prevented in an area that isn't in Zone A - a supposed non-threatening area?)
My friend and his wife were in the house, and said the water was rushing in at the rate of 1ft/1min....they had to run into the attic, and thought they were done for. They had to get rescued by boat.

If you pulled the entire car apart and dried EVERYTHING, it would be fine. But that is an astronomical amount of work.

this. you'd basically have to pull apart the entire car, remove the harness, and clean every electrical contact.

The E30 wiring is actually pretty easy to work on. if the body is really worth something to you it might be doable, but otherwise.. you might consider a part out or keep it around for parts on a new project.

worst part is it was salt water. you don't want to leave that anywhere.

I feel for you GT and everyone else south of me. It's unbelievable the effect Sandy has had on the area, and the most I can do up here is help people coming up from Westchester and the City find gas near me. I'm so sorry to hear about the cars; I hope you can salvage most of them. :(
