Correct, the transmissions computer controls it based on the desired settings for the car.

Can-Am time!! Let's look at the evolution...

      1965 Riverside GP:

      1967, Road America:

1972-McLaren's dominance is challenged by Porsche:

1973-Porsche gives the rest of the series the finger with the terrifying 917/30:

...and I can't believe there isn't a decent video of the Chaparrals out there. Some of the most innovative American race cars ever made, and you can't find a video...

Shadow was a smaller English builder that was most successful in Can Am, but also made some Formula 1 chassis. The Can Am cars they made were always very extreme-looking and fast, but not quite to the level of the McLarens, Chaparrals, or Porsches. (The Formula 1 cars were pretty slow.)

P.S. The team was founded in the U.S. but was moved to Britain when the Can Am series ended and Shadow began making Formula 1 cars.

            Here's my meager thread contribution.

Car is fully stock and roads are public, about as fast as I am comfortable going. Won't have a car ready for track use for awhile.

FWIW I know the road well and scouted up and down before filming.

Needs moar vids. Le Mans time!

1956 Jaguar D-Type(easily one of the most surreal clips out there):

                1969 Ford GT 40:

                1977 Porsche 936:

~1983 Porsche 962(a car that did a 6:11 around the Nurburgring. Think about that):

It is if you go the down direction ;) first two clips are downhill, third is up.

Couldn't tell you were heel-toeing. You're quick. I'd like to get a track video, but need to get my car running again.

Seriously though Stewie, those videos are cool. But also, there's something about them....they don't seem as legit as the other stuff here.
