What's the deal w/ the Ariel Atom?

I saw some dude driving one on the street the other day. Are these finally street legal in the US? I know the company is working on it....

I didn't think to check if there was a license plate or not. Would be pretty cool if these were finally US-legal.

Top Gear did a spot on the Atom not too long ago. Absolutely insane car.....even more so if it is street legal here. They sure do go like stink....sandwiched nicely between the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT on the Top Gear Power Lap board :-D

Yes they are awesome.I wish I could buy one to show up someone here at work that has an Elise and says it can outhandle any car in the world. Atom far superior.

awesome, awesome car. i love it.

keep in mind though that the one they slotted between enzo and carrera GT is the optional 300bhp supercharged one, not the n/a ones. i think theres a decent price premium for that

When Clarkston tested it on Top Gear, he said it was $29K British pounds which calculates to just over $50K US dollars. Not sure if that includes the supercharged engine and big brake package though. For that price, I hope it does.

The best part is knowing you can crush some mega-dollar supercars for what a new M3 goes for.

FULLY Loaded it costs just over $81k. "Cheap" one goes for about $35k I think.
