There is mucho Euro-hate where I live. If it isn't people looking down their noses at you for "driving a wannabe snob car", it is the fucking rice queens always going, "Yo, my full JDM Silvia/Skyline/Supra/RX-7/180SX/WRX/Lancer is making 200jismwatts at the wing mirrors. Why would you bother with an old 2.5L NA 6cyl Euro?" I also always make a point of telling em its got a 2valve head, just to amaze them some more as to why their fuh raze SR20 can't beat my car down a twisty road. :drink:

For shits and giggles, this is from a guy on a local forum I'm on... he is 17 and I have attached a pic of his "car" at the bottom...

once i smashed a mirror on a volvo accidently, 900 bucks for a mirror !?!?! yeah the shop covered it. dont get me started on how pathetic volvos are made, taking them apart is a nightmare.."oh i kno lets use glue and pop rivits on everyhting from door skins to speakers" ahhh

just dont see what the apeal is

i like the old mercs cos thier real mercs, full chasis, full chrome no bs, if i ever got one if throw the driveline away and bag it and run a small block v8.

also like old VWs, dont kno why just do.

BMWs are wank mobiles, like this dickhead in a Z4 that was looking down his nose at my truck, dumped it off the lights, he was soon seeing my tailgate.

wouldnt buy a holden either, just dont seem to be too reliable, im dont have any loyalty to any car brand but theres much to be said for these hi end german cars and domestics.

yeah lol factory bag for an old skool air ride merc $1000 haha, just stick some slams in there

#1 People dont maintain BMWs as they should since they accept them to be "superior" or just dont know a flying shit. THEN they burn all sorts of oil, when its prudent to have done an oil change 50K ago.

#2 BMW's are a performance oriented marque, NOT a reliability specialist per se, even when it happened anyways in the 80's. So people drive them as such, they beat the piss out of them and then the cars react accordingly.........10 years after a Honda or any other make would have taken a shit on them long ago after having been driven similarly.

      Perhaps Im wrong.

Dead right. I have found that the more highly engineered a car is, the more careful and regular maintenance it needs.

People can't work out that an M3 packs a high degree of engineering smarts into its package, while a Toyota Corolla is far more placid and basic, doesn't run at the close tolerances and extreme performance levels, which means it doesn't need the regular maintenance.

I know that the service requirements between "ordinary" Integras and the Type R model is very, very different. More expensive, more intense (more is checked/replaced), few km between intervals, etc, etc.

This is just like idiots who build hard-tune road cars full of race parts can't work out why they need to replace these hardcore components regularly after shorter intervals. Der: race cars put more stress on those components and are rebuilt accordingly!!!

my m42 leaks but its manily coolant and im working on fixing that now. A replacement of the thermo gasket and water pump o ring and lower pan gasket should hopfully fix it all. If not, ive got the engine all cleaned up so i can see where its comming from.

And our 92 jeep has like 115k on it. It is an absolute POS. A family friend hooked it up to some diagnostic thing they have and there are like 5 problems with the engine alone.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. And I bet not one of you can prove me wrong. BMW's (in general) do not have overbuilt parts. They are built exactly they way they should be. Not over engineered, not under.

As a result, if you fail to keep up the car, other parts will fail. Name one part that is failing - and an experienced mechantic can tell you 10 other parts it will affect. I could list examples, but you all know what I am talking about.

BMW assumes that you keep the car up. Broken motor mount? Oh lets see - exhaust leaks? Torn intake boot? Drive shaft prolbems? Vibration causing rattles? Motor hitting the oil pan? Who knows...one prolbem becomes many...

Well that's what I have laerned.

85 eta barely runs at 250k miles but thats to be expected at a police impound car. had an 88 ford escort that the engine ran like a top at 140k with minimal matienance that the car rusted to pieces before the engine failed. Whatever the car is going to get a m/s 50 transplant and has an IE stage 3 and koni shocks waiting for it, so life begins at a quarter million miles. F- the sceptics, it's an expensive car to play with, want something cheap and reliable get a ford escort, trust me they stand up to abuse. Get something fun that drains the savings account get an e30.

good points have been made. I must say I agree the most with the fact that bmws require maintaince like any car, and if you fail to keep up, a bmw is probably more likely to have problems than a toyota or some other econo car because of the way they were built, to be driven (like you stole it, not like your grandma)! I think there are also a lot of rich people out there that buy a car and dont care to keep up with maintaince simply b/c of ignorance. Then again, poor people do this too i suppose..

Stereoinstaller1, that's a chromed 4x4 HiLux front bumper... all the rage with mini-truckers out here.

He wouldn't know about lowering the centre of gravity. To him, handling is a waste and "looking kool" is all that is important.
